Okay, so what are we gonna do?

I personally think we should start with a newsletter, so that we're not trying to make a mahsive site from the off.
Probably worth us having a think about what we will be doing in the future though.

I agree - start small and see if anyone actually bothers to write content. And if they do, it's a nice archive to build into the site.

We need ppl to write some articles about their bikes, or mods, or whatever...

I've just bought a grab rail/sports rack for my RVF, so I'm gonna write about the installation process etc...and take some pics an' stuff.

A good start would be to build up a database of what bikes ppl have on here...yeah, I know that the question has been asked before, but this time it will be logged...we can then request reviews from the owners, and their experiences with servicing etc...

Just some thoughts...

an ongoing FAQ type thing would be cool - we get a lot of newbie bikers coming through who pick up info by reading the forums.

Let people send in questions which are then answered by the wise ones.

Run a gradually-building glossary of all these unfamiliar terms that the newbie biker is presented with.

Oh, and a 'guess the bike' comp with a photoshopped-to-the-bollocks bit of a picture... winner gets, uh, our undying respect.

yeah the FAQ could make a good feature, but not a regular one. I think building up a whole page of questions and answers, then making that the feature of the newsletter would be better.

The "guess the bike" thing sounds great fun Cool

Definatley the faq thing... we had discussed it ages ago but never got round to it.

We could perhaps one per issue on the various subjets we allways get asked on the forum.

FAQ #1, submitted by 'Confused of Manchester':

Dear BCFNews,
What are powerbands and where can I get one?

Its always good to have some humour!! As we know, such questions are occasionally asked, so there is no reason that shouldnt go in the newsletter! Newbies will be reading it too...

I'm so tempted to get an old buell drive belt or something, colour it bright colours with 'power' written accross it, then try and sell it as a 'powerband' to innocent people for £100 Very Happy

I would have though intitially bike reviews wouldn't be so important, while a fair few people are looking at getting new bikes alot more are likley to be buying new gear (ie winter jackets etc)... also the people who *do* wnat to write probably want to write about what *they* want to write about Smile

The FAQ would be heading towards a Site, not a newsletter. There would be too much info to mail to ppl but a site where FAQ's can be read and submitted would work.
It would be best if one product was reviewed by several ppl, or several products by several ppl.
I.e a range of sliders ised, leather jeans etc.

I think the way to do the FAQ is not to try and present it all in one go, just take 1 question per newsletter - it gives a nice little Regular Feature, and then if we build a site we have a good start on a full FAQ.

Exactly.

Having a few regular features like that will get us out of hot water if the article/review writing doesn't kick off quite the way we'd like.

I was thinking more of MySQL database, so that it can be done online...we can just have a questionnaire-type page to collect information...

As tin said... thopugh there's no reason we can't use access then convert it to something web-hosting companies use, it would be easier to start it in using mysql.

nah!...I've got a graphical interface-thing for MySQL, so it couldn't be easier...besides, the queries will still need to be coded anyway...
