OK, so, from what I have gathered, here is the preliminary list of volunteers:

Andrew
G
Tin
EvilBendy
Doddmaster
CraigT19
Annabella
WildGoose
Zaknafien
Zero-G
MarsBar
Scooty
Podgester

...but these are general volunteers...

...we may need to narrow down the list to the more responsible ones Razz

How about we start another thread asking anyone who's intertest to jot down some details about themselves:

computer skills (ie html etc)

if you're willing to do general writing

(General biking experience)
I'm not saying that we want to choose people with lots of experience, more that if possible we should have a good range... from just done cbt to been riding for 30 years (and that's *not* me Smile )

Hopefully we'll be get a decent range of skill etc, and not say have 10 people all who have the same skills etc.

On the article submission:
What about a standard form? Online which will e-mail the editors?
Keeping a standard format.
Name
Item reviewed
Price
Description
Good points
Bad Points
Score
etc.
This will make the reviews much easier to read, edit and display.
Also will help with duplication and collating a few different reviews of the same product

I'd agree with dean..., we can allways start with just a basic form in rtf or something... not that it'd be at all hard to make something like that.

Basically, you want say a form to fill in online with the product details as above, having selected the catorgory for it, and then it gets submitted to be approved by an admin.

like a CMS?

I cant help but think this would turn out better as a website rather than a newsletter, cos people will want to refer back to old "issues", but would still want say a weekly update on whats happening on the site?

The ideas is we start with a simple newletter, probably archived on a site. If it does take off then we'll make a 'proper' website where everything we'll be organised and archives.. at least that's how I've seen it.

The thing is we don't really want to put loads of work into something that dies after the first week.
Hopegully a newslettter will get more people 'into' doing stuff for it.

i dunno... could just start of by using say *shudder* PostNuke or such like.

Is it just wanting to be a nice big reviews/ news/ events thing?

The way I saw it, the idea of a newsletter is to get people interested. If people (who want it) get it shoved in their faces every coupla weeks or whatever, they *may* take more notice, than have to check up on a site that will probably only be updated with an artice every few days.

try starting it out fortnightly...

sent out every other wednesday evening say, with the deadline for submissions for that newsletter to be 9am that monday morning.

Might need to get quite a lot of planning between people who are "editing" it....

I've got an upload script here:

https://www.tin3d.com/downloads/psupload.txt

it's written in CGI/Perl though...but it works for me Smile

(you will need to copy and paste the text, and save the file with a .cgi or .pl extension, depending on how your server is setup)

OK...I've pretty much got everything coded up and ready to use...but I need to finalise a few bits first...

Such as:

Article Categories - so far, I have the following:

Bikes
Events/Rides
Clothing
Accessories
Services
Bike-Tech (covers riding skills to mechanics)

To begin with, all of the editors will have access to all articles...but hopefully, as things develop, we can slip ppl up into teams...
