Right,

Spoke to landlord last month about the possibility of getting a ground anchor installed

Exclamation Landlord said he was fine with this, and he is having builders up to the house this month to do some work, so he'd be happy for them to do it
Exclamation Landlord sends an email last minute on Thursday saying the builders are coming tomorrow, and if I get an anchor in time, they will install it
Exclamation I phone Almax, out of Anchors, Pragmasis only have 1 left, Torc Anchor for £80, add express delivery (Don't forget I needed it in about 20 hours time) for £12.
Exclamation Landlord asks for Jpegs of where I wanted it fixed (On the wall) on Thursday night
Exclamation I email pictures, landlord drops off of the fucking radar
Exclamation Builders FAIL to turn up, I could've bought a £50 anchor if I didn't need it on Friday
Exclamation Landlord drops off the radar until WEDNESDAY when he emails and said "Actually, the builders will be round THIS Friday"
Exclamation Landlord then sends ANOTHER email saying "Oh yeah, I've changed my mind, I don't want a ground anchor on the wall now"
Exclamation Landlord then suggests putting anchor in the flag outside
Exclamation Builders fail to turn up again

I'm fucking fuming, I've wasted almost £100 because he can't get his fucking arse in gear and then he turns round and says I can't have in where I want it?

Complete fuckmuppet. Also, the ground is flagged, point of putting an anchor in a flag is? Middle Finger Middle Finger

Fitting it on a wall is a bad idea anyway. Easy to get it off a wall unless its a concrete formed one. Even then a good thump with a sledge hammer will get it. Needs to be in Deep concrete so that there is no way of lifting it otherwise you may as well not lock the bike to it. Wink

I would try and charge him for the cosst of the anchor myself. Sounds like a prat this bloke, if i was you i wouldnt install anything untill you have it signed in writing to back yourself up if he changes his mind.

The guy I spoke to over the phone included a brick fitting kit with the anchor that consists of four meaty as fuck Liebig expanding bolts, I would take some serious effort to get that out

There's also instructions to mount it a foot away from the edge and leave 2 foot of brickwork above the anchor for stability.

Yeah my landlady said no as well, but she didn't muck me about and personally I just loop the chain through the back wheel and over the seat, if they want it they'll have to carry it... Wink

id sugggest a water butt filled full of concrete, and secure the ground anchor to that

not exactly fixed, so the landlord cant moan, but still a fucking pain for theives

you can sell the ground anchor on ebay, and ask the landlord to recompense you for the difference between your purchase and sale price

if he doesnt pay up, when u move out, simply dont pay him that last bit of rent to that amount

Not a bad idea, I might have a word with Pragmasis and see if I can simply send it back, he did mention it briefly as an option.

How heavy would a water butt full of concrete be?

Effort to get the bolts out but minimum effort to get the whole brick out with as mentioned a sledge hammer. The wall would be the weakest ling in the security. Cement is weak and crumbles easily, I would re-think your options. Thumbs Up

A waterbutt full of concrete is drifted around a lot as a meaningful alternative to a ground anchor. I see it as pointless, stupid and far more hassle.
Chain the bike to something already stuck in the ground like a lamp post. It'll have the same affect.

If someone wants the bike they're gunna be cropping the chain somewhere. The chain's the main deterrant, not the thing it's attached to.

And I doubt you'll have any luck getting the landlord to pay for something you bought. Regardless of him saying you could have it stuck onto his land then changing his mind. Would you pay for it if you were in his shoes?

Most people don't have lampposts in garden however Smile - and often nothing else that is securely fixed, meaning something like a water butt full of concrete makes sense.

It's well known tactic for thieves to get a couple of short sections of scaffold pole and four people. Pole through each wheel, lift and it's in the van in 30 seconds.

Thing is that my bike has about 3 cm of clearance each side through my gate, so that's the scaffold thing fucked D:

230 litre water butt
concrete 1.14kg/l
so about 253 kg, which i guess is the weight of your bike

heavy enough to make it a bit more awkward for them to nick it, and wouldnt cost much more than £50

you could even bury the water butt, so it was below the ground, so the landlord might not even notice the anchor isnt actually attached to the flag stone

personally, i dont think thieves would target a vfr800 when they can target a nice light sports bike, or dirt bike
