Mostly being into ratbikes, anything over £50 is way too expensive for me.

Looking at valuing a couple of bikes for a mate, any ideas where to look? or anyone on here got a reasonable knowledge of flogging bikes?

He's very particular about what he buys and has looked after them. Being sold to finance his business

Once I know the right kind of value then they'll make their way into the classifieds

Bike 1:
Kawasaki ZXR400H (1991 import) in green, blue and white – first registered in the UK in 1996. The bike is in a very good condition, has not been raced or prepared for racing. The bodywork is in excellent condition for the year, has no accident damage.
1 x Micron race can – used once and found to be too noisy! (included in sale)
1 x Blue Flame road legal can (fitted)
Front forks re-chromed by Maxton
New rear fully adjustable Maxton shock – fitted and tuned
2 x Renn Sport tyres with 200 miles use
Other servicing bills totalling £600 over the last few years
The bike has covered less than 200 miles in the last 18 months. The bike is kept indoors and regularly started.

Bike 2:
Kawasaki ZRX1200 A2P in Eddie Lawson green – registered in the UK in 2002. I am the first keeper. The bike is in excellent condition having only covered 2,300 miles, has not been on any track days, raced or prepared for racing. The bodywork is in excellent condition, with no scratches or accident damage. Since my ownership the bike has been regularly services with bills to prove for over £600. The bike is kept indoors.

Not so sure myself about these specific examples but have you checked the Parkers website. It has quite a large database of vehicle's and suggested list prices. Then I'd look at equivalent bikes on Autotrader and see what the current going rate seems to be.

ZXR400 ~ £800 I reckon. Aftermarket parts do not add value like you might think, not those ones anyway. Sell the cans seperately. Doesn't matter how much has been spent on it either. Could probably go for slightly more because most wannabe 400 owners are young and naieve so will pay over the top for nacient jap tiddly bikes.

2300 miles? Christ, the owner should be dragged out onto the street and shot. Evil or Very Mad I would reckon between £3000-3500 perhaps. They keep their value exceptionally well which is why I don't have one yet.

Mmm, bit less than he thought. But again, around the money.

He's asked me to sell them on as a 'favour', pocketing whatever I can make over what he's said he needs to sell them for..... think I might pass

Chances are it might actually go for near the £3700 mark but you've got to remember, it's nearly winter time so prices are never as high as perhaps the height of summer.

Don't know the mileage, but I'd have thought more £1500 or so if it looks shiny and is farily low mileage - as you say, lots of kids will pay lots for 'em, especially if it's on a 96 plate.
However, this isn't a great time to sell, but then that doesn't stop lots of people having 17th birtdays now Smile.
You're not after a zxr400 by any chance are you instigator? Razz

I'd definitely sell one of the cans separately.

It is said to be a 1991 bike and is the older H model rather than the more common and popular L model.

All the best

Ah, for some reason I was thinking the H was the latter one, presume the H is the one with the rounder headlights, more ZXR750 like than ZX7 like.

Note the comment on the plate was considering the way a lot of kids would still pay extra / like a bike that appears to be five years newer, even if they know it's not!

Still, if it's low miles I reckon I'd start offering it at maybe £1200, £1300 or so and see if anyone bites.

Maybe, except it doesn't say it is on a 1996 plate, just thats when it was registered in the UK. And you cannot put a plate on legitimatly that is newer than the vehicle.

All the best

My bad again, keith. Read that as on a 96 plate.
Although it's not supposed to happen, it definitely happens a lot with import cars.
