GSF400 v SV650 V 600 Bandit !!!

It seems my little 400 Bandit has similar acceleration to a 600, i was in a group of 3 today and we all went up the chapel bypass together.
Dont think the SV rider was playing because we left him for dead. Although he did come flying past me about 20 seconds later doing about 120

Yeah, there aint really much between the 3 of them.

The SV probably outdoes the Bandit in the midrange sector, but the Bandit will always pull much further 100+

I got a faired Bandit and my mate has a SV650, My mate says that pulling away quick on the SV is like having his face pulled off I keep with him but feel no such thing.
So its either my mate is a little,, MMM shall we say scared of it. of its the different riding positions. The SV has drop handle bars and the Bandit dont.

I think theres definately something in it, as far as the majority of SV650 riders go, On any of the bikes i have owned/ridden when I come across an SV650 rider they never seem to want to have a "play", very sensible takeoff from the lights, caution overall TBH. And fair enough its not a stupid attitude to adopt, but theres no fun to be had there as far as a run for your money

One thing is for sure, And as a Bandit owner with SS pipes, it can never beat the sound of a twin with the same. A four screaming at the top end sounds lovely but that growl wins every time for me.

I a while back when i was riding my GS500, that was the only time that a SV650 has stuck in my mind, the guy made me rag the shit out of the 500, and it sounded the nuts .

And since i have owned my bandit no SV650 rider has impressed me since, not from the lights or in the bends.

ive been on a bandit6, and got my arse kicked by a mate a sv650.
majority of sv riders seem to be quite sensible, which is a shame as they are cracking bikes
i used to have a b4 and that was a rev happy machine, but i was so many years ago that i couldn't begin to compare he b4 and b6 together

I had a brand new SV650 for a while and I was recovering from a confidence denting crash at the time. I tried to give it wigan chasing bikes round the twisties but always ended up backing off, the reason being I was scared. Not scared of the speed or the circumstance but because I knew that the bike just couldnt handle it. Theres only so many 80mph bends you can bounce around like a pogo stick before you know your pushing your luck. Its just not a sportsbike, and it only has something like 70bhp!!

On the plus side it had a blueflame can on it and sounded the dogs bollox.

Heres an interesting comparison though, coming home from work on thursday I get cut up by an SV, chase the bastard down and a game of cat and mouse ensues. I overtake him on a straight road when he's not expecting it and we start again. Anyway we get to an uphill stretch called 'clints' locally that has a crawler lane. Hes right on my back wheel and I can hear the V twin thumping. We hit the crawler lane and I left him for dust. Further down the road we stop to chat and it turns out its an SV1000 and in his words 'I couldnt touch you'. Thats on a 636 with 100+ HP vs a 1000cc twin version, so 400 v 650 should be very even!

hi everyone. i am the proud owner of an sv ( not the front forks which are made from a rare type of cheese).

my friend and i are always out on the bikes when he's not at uni and i could tell you about the performance difference between an sv and a bandit 6.

full throttle from the traffic lights to stupid speeds, the sv wins straight away (and yes it does feel like it will pull yours arms off)

motorway speeds like 70 onwards and the bandit starts having the upperhand.

the sv accelerates like a freak (for what it is) till about 105-110 then its like a little kitten to about 130 ish (i've had 138 but that was scary and the engine didnt like it) and the bandit will happily keep reving its way to about 120 ish and arc off from there (he said he could get about 135 without faring)

both bikes are nice to ride to be fair. the bandit has to be revved a little to get it going and the sv is a little jerky and hates pillions.

With good riders they should be about the same on acceleration away from the lights.

Normally, I find an upright riding position gives you more of a sense of acceleration than crouched.

I've never considered the SV particularly fast, but then the same could be said for most bikes. Sure I would have if it was my 'first big bike'.

i have both and although the SV feels faster i dont think it actually is. SV does have more midrange than the bandit but the bandit has more top. swings and roundabouts.

Obviously bouncyness is going to depend on a lot of factors, such as road surface, rider weight, etc.

You can fairly cheaply make the SV a fair bit better suspended if so desired.

I don't think the bandit suspension etc is that great either, but people don't tend to presume they'll be so capable.

I have a bandit 400 and my best mate has a bandit 650 2006, I've been head to head with him a few times (no comments please! haha), and from what he's said he was only taking it up to about 10k and I was taking mine up to redline (14k). This was from a set of traffic lights on one of the first rides on the b4.
