Now that i have my own bike again and my arm is healing up i think its about time i tried to use up some of my holidays before the end of the year (got 15 days to take still and i lose them if i dont). Can anyone suggest anywhere to go this time of year and that is relatively cheap? Im thinking a few days up in scotland or maybe jump on a ferry over to ireland. Can't spend much as im broke at the moment from spending all my money on public transport after my accident... Can manage a few hundred quid perhaps?

or....

am i better waiting till it gets warmer? Razz

Cheers

April and September tend to be the driest times to visit Scotland and it's still reasonably warm during the day so go for it.

Don't now whether you've been there before, but once north of Glasgow any road except the A9 between Perth and Inverness wil be worth riding Thumbs Up

The A87 and A816 are my favourites Very Happy

Some good short tours are:

Ring of Kerry Ireland,£60 petrol to get there and back + £50 ferry cost from Liverpool area.

Cornish run torpoint windy ridge is virtually designed for NC30s (think A675 but crossed with snake pass but flat), £30 petrol to get down there, £30 to get back Cornwall is pretty warm around this time you may also meet my old leader DB , and see her 450cc NC35/Nc30 hybrid thingie. A good route is Plymouth -> Torpoint -> curve towards Tavistock, up through to Wadebridge -> Newquay -> Padstow (I forget which side it is on) ,m down through Indian queens -> towards Truro for the falmouth bit, at Falmouth head towards Lands end then up back towards Newquay , and back to Plymouth , can be done in one day if you are fast, and if you are head towards Paignton for the LAST bike night of the season and meet the commandos,

problem is with cornwall camping isn't readily avalible and hotels charge a fortune, with me being a member of a clan there I can stay at other people's homes.

but thinking back you can get to France pretty cheap , IF you camp (5 Euro instead of 40) and stay off the autoroute, the reason I spent a ton of money was staying in better and better hotels , drinking insane amounts of booze, and my general riding style as you have seen more than once when you ride with me MPG goes through the floor ,

400cc should get about £150 petrol there and back + £40 for UK motorways, 50 quid for camping £50 for a ferry ticket, + £100 or so for food.

total £340-£400 tops ,with time on your side ie 2 weeks + the weekends at each end thats about 20 days, thus you can take it slowish = use less petrol and use less tyres etc.

Did a short 10day run up to scotland last month. Weather was pretty much spot on, and the scenery and roads were great. Wild camped every night with a fire and plenty of cheep booze (tins of bitter or 2litre bottles of cider).

If you were going to go to Europe, you'd be best sticking to exploring the north. Either french coast and visiting lots of ww2 history, or maybe the Ardenne and Rhineland where the roads are good and the scenery is very tranquil. If you try and go further afield your petrol costs will skyrocket, and you will have to spend precious time doing boring milemunching.
