Hi i have posted here before about noises with my engine (DT 125 11.8k miles), still unresolved.
i have a blown head gasket (coolant pressurises and leaks) and i also get a ticking noise at certain revs such as i could have the bike at 1600 rpm idle <tick tick tick tick> rev it slightly to 1800 rpm and the noise dissapears, the noise reappears at other random revs such as around 3k, 4k and 5k and dissapears at the higher revs or under hard acceleration, also the noise is very obvious if i rev the bike in idle and then let the revs drop.
I had a listen to the engine and the sound is comming from the barrel, nothing on the engine is loose.

What are the suspects?

Im hoping it could be piston slap as i need to get the head and barrel skimmed so may aswell get a rebore while im at it.
Allthough i did have my barrel inspected by yamaha dealers and they said it wasn't too bad but could do with a hone, i didn't get a hone done as they were really busy at the time and ended up throwing in a pattern piston kit, and i remember the grade letters were different on the new piston, would that have effected clearance?

Im hoping its not the big-end as its not gonna come cheap.. may aswell buy a engine off ebay

Thanks for the help, i really want to get this sorted its so annoying riding a rattling bike around!!

11.8k? There should be no problems at that mileage at all unless its been abused. Get the head gasket sorted first and see how it goes as it won't be running right with it blown.

Won't cost much to do and may solve the problem before you go spending more money chasing ghosts. Wink
