Today I became debt free (less my mortgage) for the first time in about 4 years. I sold my old car and bought a cheaper 1 over summer and when I got paid today I was able to pay off the remaining £6200 of my debt. Feeling quite free now I have more pennies to spend. Its a really good feeling.
Absoloutely no point in this thread to be honest, just thought I would share this with you all.

Good on you.

I also consider myself effectively debt free (except mortgage). Although I have a car loan from a couple of years back I have the funds to settle it in a savings account. However I am receiving more interest on the savings than I am paying on the loan, so I'm not going to pay it off until that changes.

Just wish I had the funds to pay off the mortgage! Rolling Eyes

It's a good time to be a saver rather than a borrower with the interest rate as it is. Thumbs Up

I agree.
My current mortgage doesn't bother me at all. It is £365 per month, but I rent the house out for around £350 per month as I live in barracks. So effectively I only pay £15 per month for the house.
Although I am looking at buying a second this year for when I leave the army, should be cheap though as its my fiancee's council house. Still not looking forward to looking at interest rates at the moment.
Just need to sell my CBR125 now so I can pay for the SV650s that I have bought from my brother... Good job he is family and not in a rush for the cash. Thumbs Up

Watch for a spike in oil prices to send the USA closer to recession which in turn will see the interest rate drop both over here and over there. That's the time to get a fixed rate mortgage Very Happy Thumbs Up

I've got just under two hundred quid to pay off the credit card then I'm debt free aswell... Thumbs Up

Now if people payed me what they owed me, well, then I'd be laughing...
