Haven't been on here for a while as I've only just got regular net access again.

However, I have a new bike! It's a 1990 Jawa 350 TS which is in need of a bit of work. I don't mind that as I got it for free so as long as I don't spend more than about £200 on it I won't be tipping my money away.

Basically, it has been off the road since 1999. The reason it was taken off the road is that the engine has a misfire on one pot. The previous owner took it to a Jawa dealer who set up the points and ignition, but the problem didn't go away, so the dealer had another look at it and decided that there was too much slack on one of the con-rods (apparently he suspected it's the big end). So I've got to fix that - don't know if it'd be cheaper to get a secondhand engine instead of trying to fix the existing one.

It also needs a new battery, new front brake shoes, probably rear shocks and maybe rear tyre (both are the original Barum tyres).

I have my test tomorrow so I want to get it up and running ASAP, photos to follow!

Well done on passing your test. Probably worth getting it up and running and seeing the misfire for yourself before deciding to do anything about it.

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

Now I've reassembled it, here are some pics!

The bike also came with a small headlight fairing with windscreen and a rear luggage rack, but I've taken them off as I think the bike looks better without them.

The only slightly annoying thing is that the seat is a bit on the high side compared to what I'm used to - I have to lean the bike over a bit in order to put one of my feet flat on the floor. I hate being short sometimes Crying or Very sad

Oh yeah, and I've just christened it by dropping it! No damage done luckily.

Decent bike!

Did you change a big end bearing? It's not too hard on that type of engine. Granted it's easier on a single.

They'll wheelie if you clutch em up aswell Smile

I haven't even got it running yet! I've fitted a new battery, cleaned off the points, got a spark and drained off the old petrol. I just need to put some new fuel and see if how it runs. I then want to check out the condition of things like the gearbox before spending any more money on it.
