Im looking to give my bike a well needed service, its a zx6r j1. I have no problem doing oil, air filter and spark plugs. but i want to fit some braided hoses and a new chain and sprocket kit, can i fit the chain and sprockets myself? how hard is it to do and what tools?

I wanted to know where to get decent prices for the above i know ebay is an option but are there any online shops that offer good prices.

I basically want to improve my brakes, the problem is braking pressure, or the lack of it. i have recently got some cash so i thought i will put it into my bike before i piss it away. the bike has done about 20,000 miles, would it be worth getting a master cylinder rebuilt kit too, its had new caliper seals recently.

Also any recommendations what to but for my bike with about £300 after i service it?

Which suggests a decent bleed etc. The Tokico 6 pots are a bit spongey even when sorted, but should be perfectly usable. Usually a service will sort them out, so it's odd they're still not very good.
Lines are getting on a bit if they haven't been replaced, so that's definitely worth a try.
Master cylinder shouldn't be an issue after 20k miles.

You'll need a biggish sockets to get the rear wheel off.
To get the front sprocket off you'll need either an air/electric impact wrench or just stick a bit off wood through the old wheel before you cut the chain and loose the front sprocket nut with everything held like that.

If you don't have a proper chain tool, anything cutty, like an angle grinder should do the job.
If you don't have an angle grinder, well what kind of a biker are you?

For the £300, well I'd get your bike a couple of trackdays. Might be amazed to the difference it makes to the feel of the bike if you haven't done anything like that Smile.
(Of course, the rain at this time of year isn't great for first time trackdayers.)

this is my second zx6 j1 and i have always thought the brakes were good but spongy and lacked in pressure. im comparing my brakes to a cbr600fx, my brothers bikes. there brakes are a lot harder. the lever pulls back way to far.
