im having serious problems with my nsr125, it wont start through the starter motor, and as you all know the nsr DOESN'T have a kick start, i am having to bump start it everywhere i go, and it is really starting to frustrate me.
i located the starter motor clipped to the frame just behind the air filter, and took it out of its rubber casing, when i push the starter button the motor clicks which as far as i know is telling me that it is working... but that is all thats happening. i have replaced the battery, and checked the performance plug i replace regularly (about every 2 months), the plug was slightly oily so i cleaned it, but no joy, and i couldn't really see any spark, the spark plug cable has come loose so i thought there was no connection and that was the problem, but if that was the case then i would think my bike wouldn't even start when i was bumping it. have you got any ideas at all? i am totally lost now and have no direction (or money at the moment for a visit to the garage Rolling Eyes )
any advice would be really appreciated, thanks Thumbs Up

p.s, looking to sell soon, how is best to sell, local advertising or internet advertising, and i would like to jump to a 600, what sort of 600 would you recommend?

Replace the coil and ht lead, I was having the same problem with mine when I first had it, I kept cutting the lead down and it'd be ok for a week or so then I needed to cut it again, the wire was just breaking up inside, got a new one and never had a problem after that...

They're only about a tenner... Thumbs Up

no my friend , his problem is the starter which not engage because he can bump start . what you have discovered is not the starter , it's the starter relay and may be it has gone . on this relay you see a red and a white/red wire . unplug them , now touch them toghether (you may make some sparks , dont worry) you must hear your starter motor turning . in this case replace starter relay . if not ,repair it as describe in my file https://www.geneva-racing.com/~alains/NSRtips.doc with brushes and springs replacement , or buy a second hand on ebay (and it's not cheap)
by the way your starter is on the bottom engine ,under the exhaust port , and fixed by 2 bolts inside the left casing (where is the alternator stator)
