I've just installed the windows updates, rebooted and the laptop wont play any of the music i have

comes up from media

anyone got any ideas on what to install or if something has gone tits up.. (typical after a 5yr insurance policy ran out last month)
windows noises and msn noises all sound.

Sounds like there's conflict with the new updates and your sound drivers. You need to find out the make and model of the sound card and then google for the latest drivers and install them.

much swearing later I went into add/remove programs and removed the latest windows media update, rebooted and all is well.
