aprilia rs125 or derbi gpr125?

Hi

Its not long untill i am 17 but i dont know what bike to upgrade to, i carnt decide between the derbi gpr125 of the aprilia rs125 or just keeping my derbi gpr50 and just putting a new exhaust on and a bore kit. Any insite into these ideas is welcome preferable from people who have owned these bikes in the past who still do.

If you upgrade your 50 you will be spending a lot of time rebuilding it every so often when it self distructs.

No idea on the other 2 choices, but what about a Honda CG125.
Bulletproof and reliable.

dont know anyone with a derbi,
but it looks nice!
i have a rs125 & its been off road more than on!
but its easy to get parts & work on yourself.
and its helluva fast when de-restricted! (but of course you wouldnt do that till you had a full licence!).
go for the best you can afford as most of them have been thrashed and/or been down once or twice!

RS125 is quicker than the GPR125 when derestricted, but if buying new then the RS125 is a costly machine to properly derestrict as the kit involves new exhaust, power valve, servo, jets and sprocket... where as the GPR can be derestricted in 2 mins with just a simple blade fuse.

GPR125 is much more reliable as its using a tuned yamaha DT125 engine and they take plenty of abuse.

Dont also forget the Gilera SC125 which is the same as a Derbi GPR125 just with different badges and colour schemes... (looks better in flesh than the pictures show)

I like the GPR/SC125s and not seen many problems with them so far... other than Rear pads wear out stupidly quick so fit some HH ones... and dont break the mirrors as they are £100 a go! Wink

what about a nsr or a CG? i got a CG and never looked back, they might not look well ace or anything but you put £7 of petrol in and it lasts 2 weeks (well did for me anyway) and easy to repair, no panels to smash.
