 |
|
...if there any restrictions on riding abroad (Im only talking france, spain, germany etc...so europe, really) after passing your A2 test?
Im 19 in a couple of weeks, and am looking at going across to france a few times next summer. I passed my test feb 2007, so my restriction ends feb2009.
I just wanna know, is it a year after I pass I can go across the tunnel/ferry and ride my bike there? DO I just have to be 18? (hopefully not) 21?
Any help would be appreciated, if anyone knows anything about this sort of thing
Thankyou!

The customs control looks pretty tight at the moment, I went over on a day trip a week ago and got pulled for a boot inspection both ways. On the return trip they were tapping the panels on my car |

You should be bothered about inspection, as they can drill holes in your frame without compensating you if they feel like it!
I didn't have to show my licence, only V5 to them. I don't think I've ever had to show my driving licence when motoring abroad, thinking about it. |

Ah fair
Cheers guys.
lol, now where did I put the other half of my driving licence?
Im already starting to plan out what/where/how we could go. I cant be arsed with the expense of hotels/b'n'bs/hostels (even though theyre cheap - just cant be arsed to "have" a destination, if you get me)
So Im thinking a Friday - ride down to dover, hop on ferry/euro tunnel, get to a services in france somewhere and catch some sneaky winks, have a good day blasting about france, make way back to the tunnel/ferry, sleep in services near dover, get home late sunday
Hows that for student/no money/poor wage ride out
Bring on the critics much wrong with that plan? If you have any advice, even if it cancels this idea, tell me please ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

i knew when you rang and said crazy arse plan it would involve sleeping in a gutter.
if its for a weekend il just go in leathers, shorts underneath.
few boxers, socks, jeans n tshirts in my boot .
no need for panniers = more fun ____________________ Future: ....

Didn't offend me, mate, but you'd probably had quicker replies had you stated the query in the title. There are too many vaguely titled posts for peeps to open every one of them to see what the query might be. As it is, I only opened this today wondering why a thread I remember having seen ages ago was still live...
Off you go now. The cheap places to sleep on the Continent are the Formule 1 hotels, as well as the Ibis and Accor hotels. If you just need a place for a quick nap en-route and are on a motorway, look for signs for 'airs', i.e., little rest areas with picnic tables and loos; a lot of them are attached to service stations but away from them so you've got some peace and quiet. ____________________ My other bike's a Monster... |

Toured Scotland on a Ducati 749s in 05 and France and italy on a cbr-RR this year.
I take bare min, but i take panniers, tent and a sleeping bag, i pack it tight and it doesnt make much difference to the handling and could still rag it as much as usuall.
Tyre wise i had a combination of 014 soft front, for lots of grip under braking and a 020 rear hard rear, as rear slides are alot easier to manage than a front.
My setup

I learned to take less, because putting this much on a single seater Ducati doesnt help much on the aerodynamics.

Cheers for the advice Wave, we've got about 6 months to plan and prepare and SAVE, Dav1
I might start a thread to show progress etc - but not til we've properly decided stuff. Would be embarrasing if it fizzles into nothing.
So to that end - Im getting an extra job
