Don't know if this is the right section for this post, but I'll post it anyway.

How do seat heights compare between different types of bike? Do small sports bikes such as the CBR250 and RGV250 have low or high seat heights?

I always assumed that commuter-type bikes would have a low seat height but I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be able to get on with my new Jawa because the seat is just so high. I cannot put either foot flat on the floor without leaning the bike over a fair bit - is this normal? On my RXS100 I can put both feet flat on the floor with my knees bent, which is how I like it - I feel more in control of the bike when sat on it. I don't know how the Jawa will feel when approaching junctions or on sloping roads.

I'm 5'7 and have a 28 inch inside leg, which isn't unusually short so I'd have thought the bike manufacturers would make their bikes suitable for people like me.

Sorry mate, no idea what you just brought but...

Cruisers tend to be the lowest seat height, commuters average and sports bikes some of the highest. Obviously thats not the same for all, just a general overview. Don't lean the bike over because you can't get your feet flat, it just causes more problems from being out of balance, just slide over the side and get your foot down, or get used to tiptoe.

The hardest bit is gaining confidence, sounds corny but you need to be happy that your in control of the bike and not the other way round, its surprising how easy it is to chuck most bikes around once you take control.

I had one streetfighter I built where the seat height was 2" over my inside leg, bad design but I never had a problem with it, just plan to slow down as much as possible rather than come to a complete stop.

Oops, I'd had a few cans when I posted that so sorry if it came across a bit garbled Doh!

Basically I'm wondering how I'll get on with the Jawa as the seat is too high for my liking. Oh, and I've seen a CBR250 on ebay not far away from me and am a bit tempted, but I'm wondering whether the seat would be any lower than the Jawa.

Go and have a look at it and have a sit on it at the same time to see what you think.

Give it an inspection so you can see if you would buy it anyway

If the seat on the CBR250 is owt like the CBR400 it'll be dinky. I'm 5'1" with short legs and can flatfoot my 400.

*edit* Google has 250 at 735mm, 400 at 760mm. I imagine you'd be able to flatfoot the 250 knees bent no problem. The seats are narrow on the CBR's too, if the Jawa has a wide seat then that will exacerbate the seat height.
