Best advice is probably riding a bike for more than 3 seconds and not trying it in October? Rolling Eyes

start with a corner that you are comfortable on and just keep doing it,
faster and faster, but instead of leaning the bike over, slide your arse off he seat, trying to keep your bike in a more upright position,
obviously not straight up and down, but using your weight to help you around the corner rather than the angle of the bike,
start slow and get use to shifting your weight about on the bike first,
then when you feel confident start speeding up.
it takes a while to get the confidence, just don't get too cocky or else you will end up like lukevfr,
with a cockiness to skill ability that is very one sided, and not the good side Very Happy
have fun Thumbs Up

3 months is a relatively short time to be riding...

Why do you want to get your knee down? If it's to show off to your mates, then get out of that attitude now because you will come unstuck very quickly unless you are lucky Thumbs Up

That's about the size of it.

Sorry duder, summer's over. It's that time of the year when you'll see us hang up the leathers, put that R1/Blade/ZX11R into the heated garage and get out the CB500s and bandits.

Use this time to get accustomed to your bike handling in the shit.

Your hazard perception will become a lot sharper; well hopefully it will, now you've got about another 50 things to worry about.

I rode an Aprillia RS 125 for 3 years then a Suzuki gsxr and now a CBR 600 ...I do know about speed but now I want to maintain it thru the corners lol.

Its nothing to do with showing off .. I want to be able to corner properly I thought a bike forum would understand that Very Happy

i'd say that you should have more than enough experience, its just getting your confidence up,
but yeah the time of the year isn't the best time to be rying it out,
bu if you get a nice day then keep practicing,
there is no hurrying these things ;d
good luck, Thumbs Up

Do what most of us did which was to find a nice quiet roundabout and just pick up speed around it and lean the bike more and more. You should feel when you're on the edge of the tyres.

Do this loads of times first, just leaning in and out of corners, until you feel you can handle moving your weight around too. You can take corners really quickly without actually having to knee-down it.

Virtually everybody I know shifts their riding position before entering the apex (all racers certainly do) and put their arse to one side of the bike, stick their foot flat against the side of the bike and shove your knee out. Now roll the bike around the corner (use countersteering to help you), and put your knee towards the floor.

Depending on your size you'll either have to tilt your head over or put your shoulders over to one side; the rest of your body will follow.

Don't rush things; it took me a whole afternoon and about 50 laps of a roundabout before I heard slider scrape tarmac.

Thumbs Up

Surprisingly I didn't mess up once; I watched my mate do it on his brand new R6 and thought, fuck that, my ancient CBR ain't gonna do that surely?

But it did, and felt really stable, even at high speed.

And I've got the same bike you have.

What tyres have you got?

Best advice is arse off seat. Stick the ball of your foot on your footpeg, lean off the side of the bike, keep your hips and shoulders parallel and look 'around the bike'.

too true.

I've yet to experience a lowside, done the high side thing twice now; all I can say is that it REALLY fucking hurts.

Learn to corner properly THEN learn to get your knee down. It's quite possible to get your knee down and still be taking shit lines and cornering poorly.

I have left plenty of knee-down sportsbike riders behind while on my tourer. The pegs are often scraping, but I don't need to kneedown to maintain speed. Road positioning and machine control are worth far more than scrubbed kneesliders.

Been riding a year, can crank bike right over but always screw up the getting arse out of seat bit. Either I stick the bike on it's ear without thinking about it, or think about getting half an ass cheek off the seat and don't go roundf the corner fast enough because I'm thinking about it too much, then wobble because I'm dangling off the bike... Rolling Eyes

Still got 5-10mm chicken strip on the front tyre that refuses to budge as well Sad

I'll try on Friday on my ride out - looking at BBC weather it should be sunny (if a touch nippy so wrap up) all day! Thumbs Up

a public road is less forgiving than a controlled environment like a race track.

Wrecked the R1 at 90mph!!!!

The story is pretty simple went in alittle too hot, turned in hard, and caught the footpeg. Sliding down the asphalt somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 Mph I realized that $1200 is really not that much to pay for leathers. I slid probably 130 feet before I hit the concrete barricade (didn't hit it hard). Now comes the cool part... I stood up took off my helmet and picked up the remains of my bike. No scratches, no bruises, nothing.

This last picture was taken from the point where I started sliding, you can see that it is aprett good distance to that wall!
