Hi, slightly weird and annoying fault on my Datatool Veto Plus.

My CBR600 has been standing for several months waiting for me to get my arse into gear and repair a fault with the cooling system. During that time I have kept the battery topped up with an ultra low trickle charge.

Today I went to start doing some work on it and noticed that the alarm LED was flashing rapidly signifying that the alarm had been tripped at some point. I just assumed that someone in the family must have nudged the bike, set the alarm off and failed to mention it. So I disarmed the device and re-armed it in preparation to turn off the motion sensor when the alarm suddenly trips again all sirens and indicators.

I disarm it. Re-arm it. But before I can disable the motion sensor it goes off again.

Repeat. Repeat. Etc....

Now the alarm is quite old. I had it fitted around ’97 or ’98. Has the motion sensor developed a fault? Could it be a simple short or bad connection in the electrics? For the moment I have had to leave it in workshop mode meaning it emits a beep every 30 seconds or so. All very well, but anyone familiar with the sound that walks past my garage will know there’s a bike inside.

Any suggestions for a fix gratefully received. Many thanks.

Pretty good I think, for it's age. Although I wasn't able to start the bike today it did turn over healthily before I gave up.

I suspect that this battery is about seven years old, and with the alarm, it's not had the easiest of lives, but it still seems to charge and hold the charge ok.

Is that the most likely suspect? I know that the alarm will trip if the battery is disconnected, but will it still get upset is the battery is a bit weak?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Yes it will, they also get upset if the alarm earth has corrosion on it.

If the alarm is fine while the charger is connected I would be looking at the battery as the culprit.

OK, I’ve taken the battery off trickle charge and put it on full oomph charge (note use of highly technical language Wink ) I’ll see in a few hours if that cures the problem.

Where about would the alarm normally be earthed or is it random depending on bike and installer?

Thanks again.
