Hey guys, dunno if anyone can help with this, if you can i would be very grateful. Well today i attempted to replace the main wiring loom on my 30. Although all the electrics, such as the lights throughout the bike work fine theres only a little problem, is my kill switch now seems to work in reverse, i.e. when i have it on Run, the starter motor wont kick over, however if i have it switched to off it will... Also the engine wont start either. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great! cheers!

Oh yeah the two little wires (blue/yellow and black/white) that go into the ignition coils, does it matter which way round they go into the coils? I assumed that the longer black/white one went into the plug connector that was further away i.e. bottom plug on on the coil located on the subframe.

Thanks again!

Re. the coil wires-

Yes it does matter! One is the positive feed (black/white) and goes to the black spade, the blue/yellow is the sender cable from the CDI and connects to the green spade.

This is likely to be one reason why it won't start. There could well be others though by the sounds of the killswitch irregularity.

I guess the blue and yellow should be on the same side of the coil as the
lead that goes to number four plug.

Cool, thanks guys, i'll double check if i put them in the right way later, it was starting to getting dark yesterday when i was putting it back together again so didnt notice that they were colour coded. I'll have another little play tonight to see if i can fix it. One of my friends suggested that since the kill switch is meant to cut the spark at the engine, that maybe getting the coil wires the wrong way round might be the reason that the kill switch works in reverse. Other than those spade connectors to the coils, the rest of the wiring is just plastic connectors that all seemed to be hooked up correctly as they are all paired up shape wise so not really likely to plug the wrong one in that way.

Wow that's bizzare Paddy, that is a scan of my wiring diagram from my Haynes manual. The pencil marks were my initial doodles when I was looking at turning it into a track loom. I've posted it in several places over the past year so you must have picked it up from somewhere!!!

The kill switch only kills the power to the CDI, not the starter. Having the coils wires the wrong way round is certainly related as they run from the same ignition ciruit, but I can't get my head round why it would actually stop the starter from working. Looking at the wiring diagram, the kill switch isn't related to the starter motor turning over, as the +feed is spliced in before the killswitch.

I have built complete NC30 track/road looms from scratch using reels of wire, and I can't help Rolling Eyes

Hehe, its a weird one this one. I found the problem, the kill/ignition switch seems to be wired up slightly differently into the connector, took the kill/ignition switch off the other bike i got the new loom off and it starts fine now! cheers for you help though Thumbs Up
