My back tyre is rather illegal at the minute (one side is warn down loads from someone getting their knee down)

anyway i tried to get a quote on a new back tyre and they have been 100 quid +

a mate came round earlier who knows alot about bikes and he says that my tyre should no way be a "w" rated tyre as they are for bikes that can go 200MPH.. Is this true? can i put a lower rated tyre on my RS125, he suggested a 'M' rated or something alot lower!

can anyone tell me the standard tyres that comes on the RS125 when bought new, apparently i shouldnt be paying more than 40 squid for a 125CC tyre

Where was that quote from?? Its sounds rather steep!

Oh, and Z is the 200mph rating. I think yours should be on H, which is 130mph, but you want a decent radial on it which means a Z rating anyway probably. You should probably pay around £80 I think. Check the carnells website etc.

Hi

As stock the RS125 comes with ZR rated tyres (over 150mph). These are the standard tyres, M would be up to 81mph and lethal on an RS125.

The RS uses radial tyres, and quite large ones at that. £100 is well over the top, but you havent got a hope of buying one for £40 (and if you did I would write a will rapidly). Bridgestone Battleac BT96 was £81 in the old M&P catalogue, but Bridgestone tyres are always expensive.

Did you try that place I gave you the number for?

All th ebest

Keith

What makes a tyre able to cope with higher speeds?

And what is the rating for standard nsr tyres?

Umm...what profile/width is the rear tyre?...is it a 130?...if so, then I wouldn't fancy going 200mph on it either! Razz

As for price...you pays for what you get...usually Confused

The higher the rating the better/stronger the construction of the tyre.

the width is 150

I rang that place keith and they quoted me 99 pounds for the bridgestone (same as what is on at the min)

I had got my hopes up when i heard 40 squid Confused looks like i will have an illegal tyre for a bit longer.

I got a quote on a mitchelin one which was 140! craaaazy, all that for a bit of rubber. Anyway, i will keep shopping around, i have rang about 5 places two of them have quoted 99 pounds which is the lowest so far.

I may try seeing what the prices are like on the standard RS125 back tyres (which ever make they are?) not having much luck so far.

Wow...a 150/60 on a 125?...

Newbie: it may seem expensive, but wouldn't you rather have decent tyres?...having said that, if you can't afford it, then you really don't have much of a choice I suppose Confused

Too be honest ive done a few on the pirelli's and they still seem to have lots of tread on them.
They seem to be quite a hard compound.

That is about what you would pay for a tyre for a CG125

Michelin normally seem to be cheaper than Bridgestone. The rubber isnt the important bit of it! Also try The Wheel House (think) over in Coleshill (just the other side of Birmingham). They advertise in MCN

Think the Bridgestone you have on at the moment is standard, although early RS125s came with Dunlop Sportmax tyres.

All the best

150/60 H17 - £86

would that fit ok? the size is ok but im not sure about the H17 bit at the end?

I suspect that the previous owner did a huge burnout type thing that just got the one side of the tyre or like dodd says... they have been going round a roundabout a hell of alot!

Thanks for all your replies, very much apprieciated Cool

010's on a zxr4 is bad idea... get 090's they are much better for a smaller bike as i think most will agree! i had pilot sports on my zxr, they are the same rating as 010's and they took an age to warm up, although once warm they were good tyres Smile
