At the end of October 2011, the Rusty Nuts Motorcycle Club will be running its 25th annual Grand Challenge. Over 200 of New Zealand's hardest bastards will be riding 1000 miles in 24 hours.

This campaign is to help us tell the story of this ride, the story of the Rusty Nuts and the stories of the diverse group of bikers as they travel through some of the most stunning landscapes New Zealand has to offer.

This will be the second time we've filmed this ride. The 2006 Grand Challenge was for us a filmmaking leap into the unknown. We went out with a collection of handy cams to film everything we could and ended up building a documentary out of the 100 hours of film captured that did the grand challenge justice.

We're doing this on a very short timeframe for a crowd funding campaign. If you would like to donate to our cause please follow this link:

https://www.indiegogo.com/RNMCGC2011?a=68809&i=addr

Even if you are unable to support us directly, we would greatly appreciate it if you could forward a link to our campaign to the various social media or any production industry contacts you may have - one of these people will be the key to helping us succeed!

Thanks for reading Wink

So, we give you $30,000 up front, you spend that on making a DVD, and then you sell it? And donators don't even get a copy of it unless they donate $100 or more?

This does look interesting, but "crowd sourcing" looks an awful lot like asking for handouts to pay for you to have a laugh.

No thanks. I'll let some other sucker philanthropist fund you, then I'll pay NZ$25 for a copy of the DVD not really but I think you get my point.

Hate to say it, but $100 is a lot for a DVD.
I mean, a Thankyou in the credits is fine - but unless you pay $100, you'll never see it. Razz

Shall we ask Marmalade to stick a camera on his bike for his daily job and donate to him for a new GoPro HD instead?

Yea, for this sort of thing I'd expect a share of the profits too, from my money.

With everyman and his dog having a high definition camera these days; it should be perfectly possible to have made something like this for a lot less than £15k I'd have thought.

At least around here there are teams that will do it for free if they believe the DVD will get enough sales - they then share the profits one way or another on an agreed ratio (ie first X dvd sales all go to them to cover their costs, then after that it's shared with the people requesting/supporting it.)

That would be very good of you. Thanks.

I'd even do 1000 miles in a day (again) just so it makes it all worthwhile.

Whats your usual daily mileage now Marmalade? You quoted some silly figure before when you were delivering around Europe.

It was at about 1000 miles a week average with the odd 6/800 mile day and the rare 1000 milers but having a quiet spell at the moment.
The last 30 days i've done 1963 miles on pan euro and about 1200 miles on xt600.

Not been over the water for a few weeks. Sad

I Had a call Thurs for a delivery mid france and I quoted not a great deal over cost price, just so i would have a paid trip to france for the weekend and she still sounded like someone hit her with a bat.
