My mate delivered a bike to me yesterday to fix up for him, upon delivery I had to chuckle as it looked like an old style racing bike, the fuel tank cap has the yamaha symbol on it and the tank has AV on the side. However, upon, visiting yahoo and typing in Yamaha AV 50 motobike nothing came up which is very rare. Can anybody help me find out what this bije is, does anybody know of a yamaha av or any other manufacturer that makes the AV. It's a weird one I know but someone out there must know??!!??

Cheers,

Sproket

Kawasaki did an AV50 - does it look like the bike on this page? https://www.mook.co.jp/cu01/miira/miira_41.html if so I guess replacement tank cap.

Or perhaps this page https://www.northwind-jp.com/all_days/4e_all-33.htm (which half way down has the Kawasaki AV50 with an AV50 tank badge rather than the Kawasaki badge)...

Hope that's a pointer in the right direction... Smile

No, the style of bike is completely different, the bike that I have looks exactly like the type of thing you would have seen on the racetrack about 50 years ago, only with a 50cc engine in it. I will try and sort out a pic asap.

It doesn't mean 'av gas' on the fuel tank by any chance?
A lot of 'gp' 2 strokes (not sure about 4 strokes) bikes use av gas rather than standard road-pump petrol.

How old is old?
I know a /long/ time a go they used to race 50s with 500rpm powerbands amd 14 speed gear box's or something to match Neutral.

Seen a lot of stuff about the Yamaha aV engines, but can't find a thing in English... so not sure if it's just a language thing. Is it possible that there is a model name somewhere, maybe as part of the engine plate number or something?

It could be a Yamaha engine, custom tank, kawasaki frame, honda electrics, triumph headlight etc etc

Basically, a lot of really old bikes, especially ones that have been raced, are nothing like they were when new. It will be a job trying to find information on a bike like that!

You can find a 750 Triton on this page - https://www.portal5.co.uk/autos/vintage-bikes.htm - Use the find on your browser to find it in the list...

Idea of a Cafe Racer on - https://www.barlowco.com/html/sales/cafe_racer_parts/cafe_racer_parts.html

Try using Google instead...

ya, it is very much like a cafe racer but it only looks like a 50cc beast it is also quite a small bike and very light, the only reason I wanted to know was so that I could find out what it's oil mix ratio should be. Anybody have any ideas?

Cheers

Are there any etchings on the engine casing, there's a chance the engine model is the original for the bike... Even so, it will probably help towards finding the settings... I'm guessing that this should be fairly easy to view on a plate on the side of the engine.

I think I have solved my own roblem, it says FS1 on the engine casing one side and YAMAHA on the other, anyone with any knowledge on the FS1 might be able to tell me the mx ratio though Smile
