just thought i would share my experience with you.
i took out a fully comp policy with MCE at £18 a month, £70 deposit.
for my rs125, but as its off road being rebuilt, i bought a cheap honda ns125 to run around in.
foned MCE up, eventually got to speak to a human, & was persuaded to cancel the aprilia policy, take out a new one for the honda.
(when i really wanted to keep aprilia insured but only tpft & insure honda) .
all it would cost is £35 there & then & £13 a month.
excellent.
yeah rite.
total price of policy £145.
bennets fone me -£65!
oh well, a lesson learned-shop around!
then to round it off i get a bill for £54 today, which i owe cos they say so, & they took another months direct debit payment!
then the cheeky cow i spoke to today, says if i cancel my honda policy, i will have to pay them £123 (cos im a few days outside 14 day cooling off period!) & the original £54!
MCE- DONT GO NEAR THEM!

Don't go near bennetts either, they're swines! Have a search on here.

All insurance companies are the same.
If you decide to pay monthly then you are infact taking out a loan with another firm to pay off the insurance.
It's in the t&c's when you take it out.

Read them next time it may help. Thumbs Up

I knew i was taking a loan out,
wot annoys me, is the sales girl who sold me the second policy told me my refund would cover any debt owing on the first one..
now they say she didnt have any right to say that & wouldnt have known the exact amount owed anyway, so basically she lied to sell me a policy!
cunts!

Go back to them ask to speek to a manager. Do not get into any converstaions with anyone else, if they say none avaiable get the complaints address and advice you are also speeking to ins onwardsman....
Give the manager the time of that call and ask them to listen to it, then call you back.
You then explain, fair enough you were missadvised and hope that she will be retrained so it does not happen in the future, but as such you either want everything put back as it was before, without any finanical loss to yourself.
Or a full refund for the 1st policy less how many months used. Yes you understand the T/C about % refunds, but due to missadvice you feel its only fair that they do this as a gesture of goodwill. If they do this then say you will leave the other policy running. You can add that if advised correctly in the 1st place you would have left the policy running.

If they fail to do so tell then you require the address of their complaints dept so you can send a letter in via recorded delivery.
Also advise that you will be speaking to the ins onwardsman reguarding the matter and the missadvice, that you fully understand that you have to let their complaints procedure run its course first, but you wish to make sure the ondwardsman is aware of their lapse in staff training.

Keep it polite but firm. Follow through everything you say you are going to do, And do not give up untill you get a result.

thanks for the advice.
looked up insurance omsbudsman on google.
MCE are gonna fone me back morra or mon.
i will see wot she says, then take it further if i have too!
i would have been better off keeping aprilia insured at £18 a month & getting a new policy for the honda elsewhere for £60!
now im gonna have to pay £54 & £123, then take out another policy for aprilia - total = £450!
thieves!

As i said keep it firm, but do not go off on one with them.

They know that if it goes to onwardsman they will be stuffed due to the missadvice.
Also it costs for every case that gets that far so they have to be sure that they stand a above average chance of winning.
Might take a while but from what you have said, while you won't get all your money back at least you should not end up out of pocket.
The main thing is to give them a way out, so they feel that they have got a result.

sounds like you have been lucky or i have been unlucky!
either way, when they answer the fone, as soon as you tell them you already have a policy (ie you are not gonna be buying anything)they put me on hold.
last time i was on hold 6 times! 4 times they cut me off after about 10 mins holding!
i went with them cos they are cheap, but it seems to be at the expense of decent customer service!
(i answer the fone for a living & i found thier whole attitude snobbish, confrontational & generally-like it or lump it!)
anyway im still waiting on them foning back.
i have calmed down & thought about it.
mite have to put it down to experience.
either way im gonna end up paying more money than i would have , if i had kept my original policy going & taken out a new policy for honda & paid it all at once.
lesson learned.-buyer beware & sales staff are there to get money from you, regardless of your needs- trust no one!.

eventually got to speak to a human

They may sound like humans, but there not Wink

In all honesty I have a bit of an issue with them ATM

My story

Oct 06 - insured Cagiva 125 - Jan 07 passed test, changed insurance to 600 Bandit.
So, Come round this Oct 07 I rang to see if I could get it cheaper.
'No' Was the answer - Because, altho I had a 'yrs NCB' I didnt really ride a full sized bike untill Jan. - Ok, I thought.

week later, Bandit sold - Brought Suzuki SV650 - I rang up the Sunday I was going to collect, to get insured ect.

'We cant swap insurances over on a Sunday - But we can give you a new policy if you wish'

No bloody thank you, its the 6th Oct - 1st year of NCB comes on the 7th - I told them, if you cant sort it out im going to get insured else where.
Phone put down on me - 'Yes, a normal human being put the phone down on me - Great customer service for you Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

So, I rang back spoke to a female who literally went out her way to get me insured (She sounded pretty sweet too, so didnt mind hanging on Laughing )
But I got it sorted - Bandit was £370 Tpft and the SV £330 Tpft (cant make it out, as the SV seems a much more powerful bike)

anyway I got it all sorted and because I stayed with them they did the swap over + admin fees for free.

Customer service sucks TBH - Was going to go with bennets- but all I hear is are horror storys Thumbs Down

I think most insurance companies are the same when it comes to dealing with something out of the ordinary, such as changing a policy half way through. Remember though that half of it is down the attitude of the person you speak to, as to how helpful they can or can't be.

I've gone with MCE this year because they were easily the cheapest premium wise. I'm prepared to suffer their standard of customer service if I need to at some point. Shocked

Price should not mean a thing on the std of service.
They are there to help the customer. If they have a attitude problem with you then it need raising above their heads to their supervisor to kick their backsides.....

Just remind them if they have no customers then they have no job.... If they don't like it then they need to move on elsewhere.

Personally i love interaction with customers and the more arsey the better, can soon turn them to my way of thinking if they want me to help them.

I have a policy with MCE for my 650, which currently sits in the garage awaiting sale. It cost £95 for TPFT, no pillion, no commuting, approx. 5K miles p.a., no NCB. I thought they were fairly good at securing the business as it were. I did an on-line quote and within the hour I think the same sweet sounding girl as Louise spoke to rang me up and asked if I wanted to take the policy. No one has ever rung me back and asked for the business before so I gave it to her. To be honest I've had no other dealings with them as my 1L bike, currently in bits, is insured with Carole Nash and has all the bells and whistles at £270. They're not brilliant either but it really does depend on who you speak to, some sound like minimum wage muppets who couldn't give a shite, and some sound almost vocational in their desire to help you, people is people as they say. Thumbs Up
