Getting carbon to shine again...

My carbon Micron can has lost its glossy sheen, it has also gone slightly grey/white around and under the fixing strap.

Does anyone know of any product that can be used to restore the carbon to its former glory or at least improve its appearance?

something abraisive i would say like polish? just keep polishing to get deep marks out, did a bit on my tank for my fzr and it looks 100 times better.
if i'm way out then i guess someone else will be more useful.
i used autosol's super resin polish and instant bike shine.

I thought most carbon stuff had a layer of lacquer over it to make it shiny? Might explain the white marks as it's rubbing off? Dunno really, perhaps I'm mental.

My carbon co. race can has the same problem, two harsh winters have well and truly killed the finish. Don't think there is any easy way of restoring the sheen

Thing is its easy to dull carbon fibre.

You shouldn't wash it with anything harsh as it dulls the finish.

Also solvents can damage the finish.

I work with carbon fibre. The high gloss finish is indeed lacquer. The only way to restore the shine is to remove all the old lacquer and re coat. Trouble is will not be durable. The best solution IMO is to remove all the damaged lacquer and use fine abrasive like scotchbrite to polish the carbon. It will not be as shiny but will not deteriate either. Carbon does not need to be coated.
