Folks.

Beginning to get chilly out and about and while I've spent a deal of money on winter gear there are always those draughts that you just can't seem to plug.

1: Up the trouser legs and round the ankles

2: Round the neck.

I've resigned myself to the fact that no matter how much money you spend on gloves your finger tips are going to go blue and possibly fall off so I've bought some heated grips, whether they work or not with finger tips? We'll see.

Bearing in mind that no one wants to spend more time getting set to leave than the duration of the journey itself, do you have any tips or tricks or recommendations for smocks, socks, tights (so I was told Wink ) or gaffa tape based remedies to eliminate the draughts?

Cheers folks. Thumbs Up

Get yourself a neck tube.

Buff ones are good so I've heard.

I have a free one I got with Superbike magazine years ago, it's great. made of fleecey material and keeps me lovely and warm! Thumbs Up

For the neck, wear a combi, or polarbuff, pulled tight on your neck as far down as possible with a long balaclava over it, tucked into your jacket collar, or try one of those cold killers balaclava with chest bib.

For draughty ankles, wear high boots, buy overtrousers with velcro fastenings at the bottom, or just use duct tape...

Do you wear lined textile trousers and calf length boots?

As said a Buff Polar Buff, or similar neck buff from the likes of Edz should sort out the neck draught.

Make sure you pull all your collars and cuffs into place befre setting off. Try some windstopper type liner gloves to assist with the finger tips issues, or consider fitting handguards. Acerbis do some universal brush guards that may not necessarily suit the bike but will do the job till Spring.

Tights never not for a laugh, not for a bet, and not even on Snowdon/Ben Nevis etc... in -20deg C (with wind chill). Buy some Edz long pants or some M&S long-johns say they're for you granddad for christmas if you have to, but tights... urgh!

Balaclava ftw.. i have one of the cold killers style ones (fleecy around the lower part, thin material at the top) probably the best bit of gear i own.. Not got the bib but comes down fairly far, works very well, never had a cold neck/head anyway..

The tights I've had suggested before. I think if you were going to then the thing to do would be to wear about 5 pairs, that way it'd be clear your intention is warmness, not perversity.

Hand guards to lower the problem of cold hands, try that first, then add muffs, then heated grips if that's still not enough!

1: You just gotta be gay and wear your trousers inside Ya boots..... You can keep the textiles over boots.
2: As others have said, or just nick a scarf of someone. Thumbs Up

Should not get any draughts up the arms, if you got your gloves over the sleaves of your jacket.

Aye....

I don't get draughts up the arms right enough. I wear (sometimes anyway) textile trousers, trouble is, they ruck up when you sit on the bike. They have articulated knees but I keep having to stand up to get them to kinda sit properly.

Two downsides here, first you get the draught up round the ankles (I wear hiking type boots, probably not ideal) and secondly; your man bits get throttled.

Maybe I bought shit gear, (Spada jacket and troos @ £200.) My jacket is perfectly fine except for the collar, it has a press stud and a velcro tab which doesn't reach over to the opposite collar even with a thin neck warmer. (This really annoys me, I mean the people who made it must have tried it on before punting it out... Evil or Very Mad )

I bought a pair of rayven waterproof trousers, they're totally gash. As soon as you bring your feet up onto the pegs, the bottoms ride up to mid-shin. The bottom of your trousers get soaked, again, why do these companies bother? (I know, shmucks like me buy their shite... Rolling Eyes ) Anyway, I wouldn't bother with Rayven waterproof troos, water will pour into your boots if your on the bike and you'll look like you've shit yourself when your off it.

Ooops, impromptu rant; I apologise Smile

For all the protection hiking boots afford you, might as well be wearing flip-flops.

Get yourself to an army surplus store and get some officers boots (like para boots but with cushioned bits, far more comfy), not ideal either but only £20 or so and used by couriers and I've used them myself for a long time before buying some sidis..

The market place is full of cheap shit that's badly thought out and made by blind monkeys at the bottom of a well in Azerbaijan, then they slap on a 900% profit margin.

When it stands before you and a stiff brush to get glass and gravel out of your skin I'm pretty picky about stuff myself..

I got the bottom half of the textile suit slightly large so a pair of jeans fit comfortably underneath, which I tuck into the boots. Seems to work so far. Also, I find wearing a fleece with a high collar under the textile jacket helps.

My textile suit zips together so keeps majority of draughts out.
