Hey

Just had an accident Sad

I was going up a hill, slowed to about 20/25mph because of a bend. Go round and and theres a Hyundai Accent half way across the road. Slammed on the brakes, lost the front, slid the bike into the side of the car.

Damage to the bike is:
Bent forks
Mudguard's gone
Indicator smashed
Gearshift is wrecked
Engine bars bent back loads

I'll let you know how it goes with insurance and that sort of thing

The worst part of it is - I had spent all morning cleaning and polishing it Sad

I banged my knee pretty badly, and its grazed a bit. I can't walk properly yet, but I dont think its anything serious. I put a nice big dent in the sill of the cage.

When I was lying on the floor in pain, he said he thinks it was 50/50 fault Shocked but there was a witness who said it was entirely the cager's fault.

From what you said, you were going round a corner, entirly on your side of the road, under the speed limit and he was coming the other way, half into your lane, you braked, but was not enough time, the brakes locked, and you collided?

How is that your fault? Confused

And witnesses are good Cool

Crying or Very sad ...it's always to hear about a crash, but I'm happy that you were around to tell us about afterwards Smile...shame about the bike, but as G and EB said, it would be very cool if you could get a decent insurance payout...

Take it easy mate, and fingers crossed for the bounty Very Happy

did the police turn up? if not have you reported it? thats always the first thing to do.

if they were in your side, its their fault entirely, as long as you were under the speed limit. you were of course under the speed limit cos you were riding a sym husky.

photograph the bruises a day or 2 after the accident, you might need it as court and it takes a day or two for the bruising and swelling to really show. my bruising is just starting to come out after my slide on friday night.

yeh. get lots of money out of them.

If you can find a friendly Taxi driver get them to do a load of recipts for every single journey you might have taken on the bike.
Obviously you'd want to make sure it can't be proved that the taxi driver was doing other stuff at the same time etc.

Claim for all these journeys, which you obviously *had* to use a taxi for Smile.

I dont know if I would consider a crash which was my fault worse than one which is. If its someone elses fault, then its through no error of your own, and you dont have to be the one who's insurane pays out, and then goes up

bin there b4 m8 Shocked

it looks like the crash wern't ur fault......... if you have no transport get a bus or taxi and keep the recipt, the 3rd party insurace company has to pay out for your loss of transport over the period in which you don't have a bike, so go ahead fell free to do what you need for transport. Another tip is to keep on at them 24/7 or else they will piss you about with 'ohh sorry sir the check for your compensation hasn't come through yet' Evil or Very Mad

Hi

Sorry to hear about your crash. If they were on the wrong side of the road coming towards you then it is there fault, but if they were doing a U turn (even being a muppet doing it just round a bend) you might have a few more problems (they might try and weasle out saying that it was partly your fault). Make sure you have the details of the witness.

If anyone is injured the police should be informed, as soon as is possible or at least within 24 hours.

Do you have a camera? Have you got anyone to do a quote? Being honest the damage can probably be repaired to a woring state for not vast amounts, but fixing it properly will be more of a problem. Have you managed to get the bike home?

I wouldnt hire taxis when possible. For a start if you dont win your case (say the other driver disappears and you dont get the claim through) then you will have to pay the bills. Also you have to keep your expenses "reasonable". Furthermore if you stich the driver up to much they might not stop the next time they knock someone off, and that someone might be me Confused

Do you have insurance to ride bikes you dont own? Do I take it that you have no other bike at the moment means that you have sold the scooter?

All the best

Keith
