Takechi T36

https://www.johnsofromford.co.uk/tk36.jpg

Arrow Light weight
Arrow aerodynamic shell
Arrow Anti-scratch visor
Arrow Ultra soft comfort fit liner
Arrow Quick release faceshield - easy on/off.
Arrow Fully vented, adjustable top & chin vents, flow through rear vents.
Arrow Protective drawstring fabric carrying bag.
Arrow ACU Gold
Arrow 1045g

The lid only cost me £65 last year when new, so quite a budget helmet, but feels much better than the V2 that I previously had.

The comfort is good and although the lining has stretched a little, its still a snug fit and gives me hamster checks. The buckle style clip is easily undone with the thickest of gloves on.

The visor does fog if at stationary at lights but not too any great deal and so far has remained scratch free to this date. I have tried the mechanism to change the visor, but seems a little fiddly and snug, so left well alone.

Verdict

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

A great pillion or 2nd lid.

Caberg V2 Titanium

https://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/usrimage/v2%20colours%20steel.jpg

• Double anti-turbulance nape shield
• Movable stop wind
• Rain protection rims
• Scratch resistance visor
• Sanitized lining
• CoolMax lining
• Under varnish decoration
• Quick release strap
• Painted helmet
• Internal air circulation
• Removable Coolmax lining
• Quick release visor
• Removable nose shield
• European approval : ECE22.05
• Weight : approx. 1.45kg

Cost me £50 in spring.

Pretty comfy and the sun visor is a godsend. Easy to flip up and down while riding.

Main visor mechanism has worn a little, needs an extra click now to shut fully.

Nose shield works well.

Vents are difficult to locate and open/close while riding.

Quite noisy at motorway speeds.

Buckle fastening very user friendly.

Oh and it doesn't sit flat on surfaces Laughing

Overall I'm happy with it though, Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

AGV Stealth

https://www.hein-gericke.com/uk/images/prodpics/stdavidfront.jpg

. Fibreglass and Kevlar shell ACF2 (Advanced Composite Fibre 2)

. Number of shells 2 shell sizes

. Ventilation System Dynamic system with air intakes and rear extractors

. Fabrics Dry Comfort with hygienic treatment

. Inside padding Removable and washable (excluding neckroll)

. Visor Clear, anti-scratch and anti-fog polycarbonate GT visor

. Retention System Double D

. Shield Mechanism XQRS (Extra Quick Release System): shield replacement without tools in few seconds

AVAILABLE SIZES
XXS/XS/S/M/L/XL/XXL

Last year, certain colour schemes of the stealth were available for half the RRP, making them a £99.99 bargain.
So desperately in need of a new lid after trashing my shoei xr800 in a spill, and retiring my roof due to general wear and tear, I snapped up a St Davids stealth with a nice red dragon on the back Razz

First thing I have to comment on is just how light the stealth feels. Its also nice and airy, with a wide visor opening, and feels nicely balanced on my head.
Speaking of the visor, it snaps shut nice and firmly, but you can also notch it open a crack. There are 9 open positions and closed. Also worth mentioning is that in a whole year of continuous riding its never flipped open whilst shoulder checking at 100mph+

It definately wont suit everybody's head shape, so definately one to try, and bear in mind the padding will compress considerably after about a year.

Finally ventilation and noise levels. This is a noisy helmet, make no mistake. Fotunately it never whistles, but at high speed there is a continuous roar of rushing air, but dont let it put you off, just wear ear plugs (as you should anyway).
The ventilation and big fin on the back of the helmet probably contribute largely to the noise levels, but the vents are awesome in summer. The chin section has a large mouth vent, with a sturdy pull switch on the inside of the chin piece, which makes for cold teeth if the air's on the cool side, and the forehead has some nifty switchable vents, which pass a nice draught over the top of your scalp. It has rear vents, but christ knows if they do anything besides look cool.

Oh, and it protected me very nicely in a big crash, with lots of scoring and gouging on the shell and chin piece, but I'm not a babbling vegetable (well no more so than before) so it did the job.

If you can find one thats been discounted, its a winner.

Killa's Lid

Craft RXX Barracuda Matt Black Soft Touch

https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Killa127/rxxmattblack-halb-9-9jpg_big.jpg

The soft touch coating looks ace, but doesn't withstand knocks at all. If you knock it on a brick wall or something you get a white mark. Sad
The Lid fits very well, i think next time i will by the new Barracuda with a longer face front as this one feels a bit close sometimes and i don't trust that in a crash situation.
It's loud at times, but it will depends on what fairings you've got i guess. It never bothers me to be honest.

All in all it's nothing fancy, no vents, no special visor clips or anything but it does the job and it fits well.

Looks bad ass to Cool Thumbs Up

Tart time.

My lids

Shoei XR1000

It WAS the sex, very light, very aerodynamic but unfortunately noisy. 1300g. Good for long journeys but noise is tiring without earplugs

Arai Corsair

Currently king of THE SEX.

Comfortable liner, more protection around the chin and is very tarty. Wouldn't have bought it if it didn't have the nakano scheme for 375 quid AND free gift. A good treat for anybody. Makes a very good ornament too. I wouldn't mind putting these two lids on a glass display!

HJC CL-SP "Phoenix"

https://img234.imageshack.us/img234/4808/1000558smallva8.jpg

Great lid to replace my shark with. I had a HJC before my shark and it done very well, served its purpose perfectly until a car kindly hit me head on.

I brought this one after smashing my shark. I really like the looks the weight and lining. One problem I have with it is the damn strap sometimes it gets crossed over when putting it through the d-rings and makes it hard getting it off Laughing

Apart from that solid lid.

Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Good visibility I like the wide visor, Lightweight, design.

Cons: None yet.

Arai Quantm F Doohan Rep. If it's good enough for the man himself it's good enough for me. Thumbs Up

Stonking helmet. My 1st Arai and I dont think I'll go back to anything else.

Quieter and more comfortable than anythin else I've owned.

KBC VR-1X

https://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g123/ncrn/VR1X_Classic_Red_lrg-1.jpg

I got it for £65 with an irridium visor at the london motorcycle show.

Its really comfy, its one of the best fitting helmets I've worn, but then thats down to the shape of my head. Though I do find it a little heavy at times.

It's got a double D style chin strap, which works well, I've never had it come loose.

The vents are pretty good, I find if I open the rear vents you can hear a whistling so I tend to keep them closed, however they are all easy to operate with winter gloves on.

The wind noise is accetable in it, it's a lot better than my previous helmet, but after an hour or two it does become uncomfortable.

The visor swapping system is good, it is very easy to swap visors. The clear visor comes with some anti fog stuff on the inside so its very handy. The irridium visor was fantastic until it was scratched beyond belief by a lorry that dashed stones over it.

All in all its a good helmet and I'll probably buy KBC again.

The one i bought is the N750-VX in red/black and Gun metal.

First impressions are that is a ok helmet with reasonable paint work and build quality. Closer inspection finds grills that are cheap plastic stuck on parts witht he injection moulding marks still visable.

When compairing it to my Arai, it seems alot bigger (wider) and has a larger visor than the comparison. It is however lighter than my Arai. The latter weighing in at 1500g +-50g and the nitro at 1350g +-50g

The inside hosts removable cheek pads and a washable lining. This is good but feels a bit thin around the top and back of the head. It feels as if all the padding is at the front of the helmet. The size is a Medium 57-58 and it feels alot larger than my Arai of the same size. My head has room to move a few centermetres.

Another Negative about the helmet is that is has a seatbelt type fastening rather than double D rings. I dont see why all makes do not use double D rings. there is nothing to fail incase of an accident.

The front air vent opens with a slightly disturbing click. like the sound of a cheap plastic tupperwear box. This makes the solid feeling of the helmet fly out the window. Shocked

The paintwork is of reasonable quality and has very few minor lacqure marks. Im sure it will hold up for even the most taxing of helmet users.

There is a antifog piece that fits on the mouthpiece of the helmet (just underneath where the visor sits(when closed)). This stops the visor fogging up to some degree, but is almost impossible to get totally fog resistant attributes from something so simple. so for what it is, it works well.

The main thing this helmet has going for it is its price. At £99 this is a really decent piece of kit. It comes with a velvet bag to keep it all nice and warm when you are not using it. Thumbs Up

Overall, a nice little helmet at a very nice price. Its a shame that they havn't added D rings and a decent airvent. But at just under £100 you cannot go wrong. Everyone Bare in mind that i was compairing it to my Arai Chaser helmet that was £325. Thumbs Up

Thumbs Down

Had one of these helmets for a few years, thought it was the dogs nackers purely and simply because I'd never owned a better one. Soon realised when I bought my Aeroblade that the Takachi was huge, heavy, crap for ventilation and the visor mechanism was designed and made by a toddler.

Tried to carry on using mine just on days when the rain was dia and I couldn't be arsed taking the tinted visor of my OGK. Soon stopped as I couldn't ride for thinking how crap a fit the helmet felt. Feels like riding with a pillow wrapped around your head.

A carry bag is hardly a good thing seeing as you get one with most helmets if not all, and who takes a helmet bag with them on a ride?

Anyway -

Mine: OGK Aeroblade 2

Love it to bits and find the idea of ever changing it very difficult. As mentioned before its - Light, well ventilated, and very comfortable. Does have the downside of riding is not exactly silent but then if thats not an issue then why worry? I like to hear my can Very Happy

I tried on loads and loads of helmets but this one fitted perfectly. It is so so comfy and hardly any road noise. It has loads of padding and is really light.
When I bought it last year I paid £115 for it in the sale reduced from £230 Thumbs Up

AGV Longway

https://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/usrimage/cat4382930.jpg

The AGV Longway consists of a high-resistance thermoplastic resin shell with removable and washable interior. It has a quick release buckle and a clear, anti-scratch polycarbonate visor.

* Painted HIR-TH resin shell
* Front air intakes & rear extractors
* Removable & washable lining
* Clear, anti-scratch polycarbonate visor
* Quick release retention system
* Dry comfort liner with hygienic treatment

This is my first lid so i cant really make a comparison on it, its a good fitting lid, comfortable, a tad on the noisy side but nothing that cant be fixed with some ear plugs. The visor change mech is easy to do once you know how, but its a bit fiddly to do at the side of the road. Its generally well vented when the front's up but otherwise it gets a bit stuffy. The visor is indeed anti fog... but only if you dont plan on breathing, otherwise it stays open... even in the rain!

For a first lid, its not that bad actually... ill probably give it to my pillion when i buy a Caberg Justissimo!

HJC CS-12

https://www.bikersbuyit.com/Shops/bbieurope/contents/media/hjc-cs-12-session-rood.jpg

Arrow 1500g
Arrow for me at least a pefect fit
Arrow removable inner
Arrow TUV approved, but I dunno how relevant that is
Arrow £70, so brilliant value for what it is
Arrow range of colours if that matters to you

Only problems to speak of is the visor takes a couple of minuites to change and the chin vent has been known to open up at high speed when it should be shut.

But over all no complaints from me or the old man, not the first HJCs we've had and they've always been up to the job, and yes that includes crashes.

A great helmet. Light, great vents and with the pinlock it never mists up. Although my black visor doesn't have a pinlock and mists up pretty quickly in cold weather. Visor change is probably one of the more fiddly I've used, mainly with a black visor as you can't see where all of the little locating lugs fit like you can with the clear visor. There's also a small spring in the visor change mechnism that looks like it can't wait to ka-boing out and land in the corner of the garage. It's all day comfy for me and overall a joy to use.

Picked it up for £170 as it was being discontinued.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Loses a star because of the slightly fiddly/bitty visor change.
