More importantly, why are you getting rid of a firestorm to get a [oh look there's another] R1?

What the F*ck!!?

Where do you live?

I have had my R6 for eighteen months and still cant get insurance lower than £350! And I live in an area where I can leave my keys in the ignition while I go around morrisons shopping knowing they'll still be there when I come back. Crying or Very sad

You've been riding 6 months and want an R1? For the pose value?

Can you ride the wheels of the Firestorm yet? are you touching the notoriously long hero blobs down? No??

Get more experience on the storm first, or you'll just become another one of these guys that can't corner, but then whacks the throttle open on the straight bits.

Most people I know even if the did DAS started small and moved up as they gained experience.

Coming from a 19 y/o on a mille it's up to you to believe me or not, but I could ride the wheels off my Hornet 6 and wasn't slow on my 400.

registered in droitwich spa, small town in worcestershire, not much crime, garaged, n yeah £349 would of been the same for an R6.

And yes, i do believe i can ride pretty well, nothings left me for dust yet, n im on my 3rd set of knee slider, lol, think im quicker with out the knee going down, but its gotta be done for th pose value! haha

Love the storm but i just want a bit more power, and teh ground clearance does my nut in, and i think is quite dangerous, pegs and such down at speed is not too nice!

Get the R1 if you think you can hack it then. Thumbs Up

Just ring around the insurance, you'll get it down.

I don't recall him asking for your life story, advice on whether he should get the bike or a lecture on why he shouldn't.
He wants an R1 and whether its for the pose factor as you eloquently put it or because it's his dream bike really shouldn't be cause for silly comments and threads like 'learn2ride'.

My advice is use a website like go-compare.com and get an idea as to who is offering cheap insurance. Then phone them directly for a better deal.
I use AA and to be honest they are very competative. Don't expect anything the low side of 1,000 quid though. R1's are the lambo's of the bike world.
Good Luck.

Did I ask for a lecture?

Merely voicing an opinion that most people move up through the capacity's as they gain experience. There are always threads on here along the lines of I've been riding 2 days and want to upgrade my NC30 to a ZX10R.I also don't type in text speak. Saying learn to ride is never a "silly" comment in any context. Everyone one of us would benefit from learning more about riding.....

If you read my post below that you'll know that I said best of luck to the guy and the best way to get quotes down is to spend an afternoon ringing round companies.

You'll get way way better quotes by actually ringing companies and playing them against each other than just clicking away online.

So why go for the mille? I bet you couldn't ride the wheels off a 600 ninja or 7r.

Why go for the mille?

Exactly the same reason the OP wants an R1. Smile Rolling Eyes

I'm currently paying £371 TPFT for my 2003 R1, it was £550 for fully comp. I'm 24, 3 years NCB and I live in a really crap part of London.

I've always got insurance through www.simplyinsurance.uk.com, they've always done me silly good deals and all the claims are done through a company called Action Claims who are not too bad.
