Hey folks,

I have a yamaha aerox at the moment but im gonna get a proper bike in the next few months. I wanna get a sports bike. The insurance for a 19 year old is too expensive to get a 125 so im gonna get either the RS 50 or NSR 75.

What bike do u think u all think is the best?

Thanx! Very Happy Wink

I'd bite the bullet and go for the 125. You can get reasonable insureance if you shop around, and I'm sure you'll get loads of suggestions from the 125 riders here.

Hippy, I *think* insure is stupidly high in Ireland (as if it isnt bad enough here!)

bikes4life: Go for the best you can afford would be my advice. Make sure you shop around, lots and lots and lots. Then when you have 2 or 3 good quotes, start ringing to and fro between them, playing them off against each other (like G just did with his NSR )

Good luck!

insurance in southern ireland is idiotically high. i would say do your test with a training place if you havn't already when just go for a superdream on something, even group 5 insurance will be about a grand at least.

batman is paying about 8000 euros a year for his RS125. i dunno if he has any claims to push that up, but the situation is silly over there. not even worth thinking about getting a sports bike, see if you can buy a newish bike and get insurance thrown in as part of the deal.

Why is insurance so stupidly high there?

£8,000 to insursure an RS125 is daylight robbery!

Hi

Think it is down to very high accident payouts.

In the North insurance injury claims used to go in front of a Jury, who though "only an insurance company paying, have £10K for a broken finger nail". They changed that to payments being decided by a judge but the payouts are still stupid. Net result in my sister (who lives in NI) is looking at a minimun of £1850 to insure a car TPFT at 17.

Insurance doesnt cover acts or war, riot or terrorism. You (try to) claim that from the government

All the best

Keith

nah i pay 1400 due to country address :)
but it is 6100 for a 21 year old on an rs125, about 8000 for a 19 year old
the reason is mainly legal, there are tonnes of claims lawyers over here and there are no caps on what u can claim in damages, u can easily get 10000 euro for whiplash :( on average irish insurance is 10 times higher than the rest of europe
personally if u can afford it go for the ns1(nsr75,80) the rs will be a nightmare of gear changin
the ns1 does about 80 mph flat out and is nice and thin for traffic, well faster than rs50, i learned on an ns1 and an nsr125
just get it for now, build up your no claims and pray the insurance drops like a mother fucker

https://www.nsr125.com/bikes-aviator.htm
thats the ns1,nsr75/80-seems to be some confusion here :)
as i said ive known 2 owners(one still has it) and its a decent first bike when u take the insurance crimes into account

Dunno, but the problem would then be when you did want to try and get insurance you would have "riding without insurance" on your license Confused

I agree with Dan, think about how many people in England don't bother with insurance. I watched a programme and I *think* it mentioned a figure like 1 in 7 people is not insured to drive/ride their vehicle.

I can tell you for a fact if I lived in Ireland I wouldn't have insurance. It wouldn't work out worthwhile. I know some do-gooders amongst you will come out with all the 'you wouldn't be saying that if someone crashed into you and wasn't insured' but quite frankly, I wouldn't be able to afford to insure a bike in Ireland, or a car for that matter, but I wouldn't let it get in the way of a hobby like riding bikes.
