Hi all,

My brother has finally decided to get himself a proper sportsbike when he gets back from the sea.
Please tell me what you think of this one?

https://www.hot.ee/nowhere/fzr250.jpg

YAMAHA FZR 250, 1989

4 stroke
37kW
new chain & sprockets

the price: 1200£
the reason for sale the usual ''need to move on to more cc''

Now the big con is that the owner has no idea about the mileage.
He claims to have brought the bike after it had been fitted a digital speedometer. He himself has rode it about 6000 km.

In my opinion it's quite a big risk for a '89 bike but it does have a rare 4 cyl and looks pretty nice too... Confused

If he's been riding a NSR then he probably won't be patriclularly impressed with the performance.

Also if the bike's done a lot of miles then the engine may well need a *lot* of work doing on it if it goes bang.

Hmmm..

not too sure mate. The paintjob screams "I've crashed!" and the forks look really 'unsafe' but hey...its up to your bro. At the moment I reckon you could get a nice NC30 for that money.

you could hpi check it and see if its been registered with the national mileage register, and that would also see if its been stolen in its thirteen year history. in fact i would recommend HPI checking any second hand bike!. when you ring him up ask for the reg No and the frame number

Well just before summer I saw 2 immaculate NC30's for less than £1500 each. Added to that its winter...bike prices will be falling, I reckon a fair bit of haggling could net you a decent one for £1200 no probs

ermm, that looks very strange. It's got a completely different tail section, side fairings and nose unit. Looks like it's been completely busted and redone.

Confused so I take it was a bad pick?

thanks everyone for your suggestions -I'll keep on looking.

there should be quite a selection of used bikes coming to market as the winter sets in.
and we do have like 6 months to wait till the roads clear from ice so no need to rush it...

Keep an eye out for 400's around that price. The insurance shouldn't be too different and it's closer to a "Proper" Sportsbike

I sure will...

And luckily I don't have to worry about the insurance too much-
around here it costs like under 100£ for the WHOLE year! Very Happy

Just a suggestion zxr250's or zr250's (not to common in this country) theyre 4 cyl 4 strokes (62.5cc per pot) they'll rev out to 16,000rpm standard due to the small pots and whack out around about 45hp i think they look superb

Just a thought
