...your bike or your license?

It was the same as my car licence, I waited for a solid pass before splashing the cash on a bike, but it seems like theres a fair few people that have a bike waiting in the garage or shed for them to pass.

Any reasons for your choice?

I think my main reasons are that I am too tight fisted to spend money anyways and the thought of having something that I can't play with just seems mad to me.

Now i seem to remember getting my bike before my bike licence... How else could i pass my bike test..... But then again in the dark ages having a car licence, meant i did in fact have a provisional licence for a bike..... Laughing

Hmm I'm not sure, I had my license before I bought my moped, but I didn't have the cbt..

But then I didn't have it out of the show room till after I passed..

So I guess I did have a bike first in ways.

Walked into a Honda dealership and bought a 600RR before ever sitting on a bike. Best thing I ever did.

Bought an RS125 before doing my CBT. Rode that for a year before passing my test and moving up to the SV. I remember how painful it was having the thing sitting there and not being able to ride it. Neutral

I think buying a bike before you have a license is tempting fate

I started riding when a full car licence was a provisional bike licence. Passed car test, then bought a 125, passed bike test (no CBT or Theory then) then upgraded a few months later to a bigger bike

I bought my 125 before my CBT, and my 600 before passing my test.

Got a provisional licence then bought my moped.
Then bought a 185 Honda and passed my test on that.

Licence came first, kept the CB100N for a couple of weeks then swapped it and a mini for my dad's CB250RS when I got my new car.

I bought my Rs 125 before I had my licence. Copied the keys and gave the originals to my dad. I rode that thing for half a year every day before getting the licence. I got lucky not to get stopped

In answer to the question on WHAT CAME first. Technically, semen came first which provides transport for the sperm, which then manifested itself into the chicken. The egg is the medium for the chicken zygote formation to occur.

Bike came first with my dad's funding to get me a new XR125. Seeing that i had a cbt since i was 16, i passed my test on the bike.

i bought my RS50 in july then did my CBT november. long time, but i liked the bike and had the money. plus it gave me motivation for many things not just to take the CBT. gave me something to focus on and think about. stripped all the plastics down and then cleaned them up and re-built up. since i did the engine twice. poxy 2 strokes.
now i have my zzr6 in the garage having sold the RS about a month ago to buy it. it has left me with no transport for a while but as soon as i sold my RS i applied for my theory ... i had no bike, i needed my license and so i had to get started. i have now had 2 off road lessons on a 125 and on the 11 november i have my first on road lesson. (day after my birthday) therefore in the next few weeks i hope to have my license in my wallet. full gear on and sat on a nice shiny zzr600. without selling my RS i couldnt have bought the zzr ... if i passed my test and could ride the zzr i wouldnt want the RS - catch 22 i guess. but i opted for buying the bike then taking my test, for the second time Smile
besides, having the bike there is nice. i know it's mine and it's the anticipation of getting out on it for the first time. i've washed it 4 times - it hasnt even been ridden since i had it.
i am lucky though, i had it ridden back from where we picked it up with me on the back..so in that sense iv had a go, plus i rode it in the carpark of the services we picked it up from. and a friend is taking me out on it this week and possibly my birthday too. so i cant ride it but i can say 'that is mine!' and go out on it.

I bought my bike before passing the test due to our licensing procedures here (Australia). A learner's permit is valid for 6 months before it expires and you have to do the pre-learner's course again. I didn't want to waste any time searching for a bike and eating into that 6 months before the provisional (Ps) test.

It lived in my friend's garage until I was legal and I only took it out twice for basic instruction in a quiet cul-de-sac from a patient friend as I'd never sat on the front seat before or driven a manual transmission car Embarassed (although had been pillion for ~11 years by then).

First post by the way... is there an official "hello from the newbie" corner? I haven't found anything obvious in my searching attempts... I should probably share some pics of the wee bike and some of my adventures out here (including Philip Island Supers & GP this year Thumbs Up)

I got my Senda a week before i did my CBT, it was horrible having it in the garage not being able to ride it so i just practiced stoppies in the driveway.

Got the Hornet after i passed my test because i wanted to wait for the right bike to come along, and i knew i wouldn't be able to resist the temptation of riding it if i had bought it before i passed my test. Thumbs Up

Test first, just in case I failed which I did, didnt want a bike going to waste, and still had to save up for bike, until i got it as a present.

Car, same licence first, then parents bought car.
