Northern Rock, should I be worried?

Currently got my mortgage/curren/savings with northern rock. Couple of people have told me to get my cash outa there asap, should I be as worried as the people ive seen on TV? They are emptying their accounts! Is this just blind panic?

Im no expert when it comes to finances, aslong as they keep my money safe is all im happy about!

S'blind panic. It's a run on a bank that causes a bank to fold. We're currently in a shaky but not too bad position over all, it'll be something like an article in the papers/on TV that will cause a domino run that really triggers an economic implosion.

I would get my cash out asap. Your mortgage will be taken up by someone else and it is money you owe so don't worry about that, but your savings are yours and like so many things that goe tits up you will only get 6 pence in the pound. best to be safe than sorry.

It's typical British panic, this is something I really, really hate about British people.

I won't bother writing anything else, it'd just be the same as what Mister James said.

Ironically, the only thing likely to cause them to go under is this mass panic. Even then though, they'll still have enough to be fine.

Interesting to note many of the comments by people who were q'ing for 3 hours + to get their money....

"We are not worried or panicking, we just want to move our money somewhere else....."

Wonder how many got mugged of their savings on the way to the new bank.....
Or ended up losing money due to penilities or lost interest.... Mugs the lot of them...
One thing is for certain, the BoE or the Gov will not let any bank go under at the moment, or ever come to that.... They rely on the money the banks lend them to keep going....

Well effectively Northern Rock have been nationalised after ' borrowing' 23bn of government money, which means about £800 for every man woman and child in the country.
