Parking ticket

Ok, I was parked on the pavement outside my flat where I have parked for the last 6 months or so with no problems.
Yesterday I get a parking ticket. Strange because they come round on the're scooters all the time and I never have a problem?!
Anyways its a £50 fine for a code 62, which I find out is 'two or more wheels on a public footpath'.

Later in the day I start thinking, why have I never had a ticket before?? More to the point how do I get out of paying this fine?

I've now decided, because I ride CG125 with a center stand, only the front wheel is on the ground, the back is not. Quote code 62 'two or more wheels on a public footpath'.

Has anybody tried to contest anything like this or know where I stand with trying to get the ticket overturned?

Any comments are greatly appriciated.

When I found a parking ticket on my car I gave it to our gerbils who kindly transformed it into bedding. Never heard a thing from it and that was 2 years ago now

It's worth a try appealing it but from memory, London has its own, special laws regarding pavement parking. I do know some couriers were getting round it by carrying a prop so neither wheel was touching the ground when they were parked up but I suspect they may well have closed that loophole by now.

I do know that certain specified roads in London are exempted from the rule but I think the law has been reworded to say "Parking wholly or partly on a footpath, cycle track, or anywhere else other than the road."

In any case, you won't lose anything by appealing it, they can only say no.

It's covered by the Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1974 (c. xxiv) section 15 (as ammended). You'd need to get a copy from the local library as it is too early to be online.

Your bike broke down, after much consideration you parked the bike in what was the safest place you could leave it whilst walking/getting the bus/etc to go to your mates to get the required tools to fix the intermittent electrical fault.

I am sure someone on here earlier in the year said that if a bike was covered over with a proper bike cover then the parking wardens have no right to lift the cover off.

The wardens are getting a lot more hot about ticketing people on the footpath.

A couple of pointers - is the land private or a public path, are there pavement lights in the path. If so it is private property and as long as there is not a sign saying that that parking is prohibited thenit's OK to park there.

They sometimes use the excuse that you rode across a public footpath to get there but without seeing you do this it should go nowhere.

I would also appeal if you have been parking in the same spot for 6 months, try telling them that a warden had told you it was OK.

PS Lot's of people in London used to park and cover their number plate with a bike cover or bit of card, The Wardens are now allowed to lift covers to check the registration.....

Same thing happened to me earlier this year. I was parked on the pavement in the center of Glasgow. The pavement was massive and i wasnt in anyones way.
Recieved a letter bout a month later saying that i owed £60 as i had not payed the fine in the 30 days discount period. funny thing is, i never recieved a ticket in the day of the offence!
Of course i was straight on the phone to discuss my situation with the horrible woman at the parking shop, who im sure thought i was a criminal for parking wrong!
Appeal never came to much, i managed to get the reduced fine of £30 though. After looking at the resaons they fined me for, i decided to accept that i was in the wrong. £30 for over 3 years of parking in the best spot in town is nothing after all!

Check arround for double yellow lines or bicicle parking bays, thats what got me.
