This OS does my nut in!

Im not a techy so don't tell me it's obvious Vista is crap.

Ok, a few issues with it.
I downloaded Quicktime for viewing .3gp videos. I click a file, nothing happens, about a minute later the bloody thing will pop up, if you've clicked it again another will come up afterwards, and so on....
WTF is going on there, its such a small program, im viewing videos that are like 300K! Rolling Eyes

Next one, i use Windows media, now i know you all probably use something else for some reason but my Windows media player on my XP machine runs sweet as a nut.
When i select a track, it takes far too long to start playing, if i fast forward it the thing spits out horrible noises.
Also when looking around on the net, i could be playing a tune, open another window and hit a link and the tune cuts out for a split second! Arrrgh!!

So what is it with Vista, why does it have trouble doing what my old 666Mhz PC could do no sweat.
The machine is a like a 2 core pentium 4 thingy...3Gb CPU etc....shouldnt have such a problem really.

Thanks guys Thumbs Up

My media player does something similar too.

If I'm listening to a CD then pause it and watch a youtube video or something, when I go back to unpause the CD it plays about 3 seconds, then cuts out and spins the CD back up then carries on again, weird.

The best way I've heard of speeding up Vista is to turn off all the shading and cursor + window animations, apparently this greatly imporoves performance.

That's because it keeps the next few seconds in RAM, but stops the drive spinning, so doesn't put more in RAM, when you pause it. Pressing play again delivers what's in the RAM, then it starts reading the CD again. Happens with DVDs and movies off external hard drives too.

How much RAM've you got? This either sounds like a RAM issue, random hardware incompatibility, or data bottlenecking, also in your hardware. In that order of likelihood.

I'm also curious what audio format you're listening to/trying to listen to when you're experiencing these problems.

This is with any audio format i think.
I know about the CD spinning up issue, that doesn't bother me. Electronic files shouldnt be like this.
I have just over a Gb RAM i think.

Thumbs Up
