Evening all,
I was done for speeding by a policeman on an unmarked bike on 23rd of August. He gave me the long yellow ticket with my address on bike reg. etc. and I had to hand it in to my local police station within 7 days which I did. I had 28 days to pay the fine (20th September) and I sent this off first class on the 15th September, payment as a cheque. The cheque was finally cashed on 9th October. On the back of the ticket it says I need to write them a letter if I haven't got anything back 6 weeks after paying the fine. Will this be 6 weeks from the 15th September or 9th October?

Then, the very last paragraph at the bottom says that the receipt is only valid for two months or until my licence is returned, whichever is the sooner.

Should I write them a letter even though the 6 weeks isn't up? Wait till 13th October? Or has the 6 weeks expired already if it's from 15th September?

Would it be easier just asking the DVLA for my licence?

Surely if they've cashed the cheque then my licence should be on it's way to me?

Probably lost now in the post in my opinion.

I'd phone them up quickish.

Last time I sent mine off it didn't take long at all ie less than a week.

I've heard that if i police officer puts his sirens/lights on in a unmarked car and hes in normal clothes by law you do not have to stop for them and they have to call for a marked vehicle to come and stop you?, is that true or not?

Not as far as I know, however you could reasonably get away with not stopping until somewhere public/busy incase you suspected it was an impersonator, mainly for lone women at night etc that one!

In law you can only be stopped by a Police Officer in uniform (which does not include the requirement to wear his hat).

A uniform is any clothing designated by the Chief officer therefore may vary from force to force, but the individual must be identifiable as a Police Officer.

So a plain vehicle driven by a CID officer in plain clothes would not be able to carry out a lawfull stop of a vehicle, a plain clothes officer in a marked vehicle is not allowed to stop another vehicle, they must be in uniform.
