seeing as my computers always on 24/7 and the window that views my shed is next to me can I just buy a half decent USB webcam and use that as a cctv camera to record everything?

seen software that has things like motion sensors and everything.

at least if my next bikes stolen I can set it to an audible alarm and have some footage/time of incident etc.

any ideas?

You can get IP cameras either wireless or ethernet.

I'm working somewhere at the moment where all internal cctv stuff is done through ip cameras.

I used to leave my Logitech Web cam on in my room at Uni and set it to motion sensor on. It used to come on and record some funny sh#t sometimes. My mate was once in my room getting some rizlas and my massive RC plane was on the edge of the cupboard and as he went to get the skins the plane dropped on his head.

He didn't know of course I came home and checked the log and had a good laugh about it.

N30 the only thing with what you are after is, the motion sensor will have to be quite powerful you could test it by placing the Web cam facing outside and walk outside and pretend you are nicking your bike etc etc. You may need to invest in a good cam.

You need to make sure you get a camera that can handle low light recording well.

A lot of USB ones won't. In my experience the ones with loads of LEDs are often pretty poor too.
Much more important that LEDs is a decent CCD that can handle low light.

If you go with a traditional camera, you can always get a converter fairly cheaply, USB or PCI etc.
