the other half just knocked the switch on the surge protector and cut the power and it wont work now. it seems to power up but he monitor says no video input. i've just whipped the main hdd out and I can plug it into the laptop and access it so thats ok.
I've been in the pc to have a look. nothing visible, although the psu seem to have a bit of a buzzing noise. I've got another pc with an identical psu and thats silent so i'm thinking the psu has failed.
The fans and lights are still running tho? i'll swap the psu's around tomorow, but could the moby or processor have gone down as well?
suggestions please?

Demand gratuitous sexual favours from the other half in compensation?

Otherwise, PSU would be my first thing to try followed by CPU, RAM and motherboard (one at a time, obviously).

Have you got a graphics card? If so remove it and plug the monitor cable into the onboard graphics.

If it's not the graphics card it's either the PSU or motherboard.

Looks like you'll be upgrading some parts now Wink As the guys have said, you've got to check all the parts individually

its got a graphics card, no onboard graphics. I've swapped the psu for an identical one and its still the same so it looks like its either graphics card, moby, processor or memory. Or all. Sad
I fucking hate computers. I've just spent £400 on a new digital camera so its not come at a very good time. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

how can i test the parts individually? I dont see theres any way unless i have an identacal pc to swap and eleminate parts with?

When i turn the pc on the fans and lights all come on, but theres no vieo output, no beeps and if i hold the bottom in to turn it off it doesn't respond.

Are the parts from your other PC not interchangable?

Which means it's not reaching POST, so I doubt it's the video card. Memory would be my first choice to try (and it's the easiest).

The parts between the 2 pc's i have are not really interchangeable other than the psu 7 hdd's. The pc that went pop is an amd 64 3000+, the other is an old 1 gig amd with onboard everything. I'll pull the memory out and see what it does.
