Just came back from a "test your bikes/car's top speed" day in Cilcain.
The measured part of it was 1/4 mile long with half a mile before to build up the speed.
Did 2 runs , one was @ 43.26 Mph and the other was at 41.28Mph. @21.45secconds
Well I'm chuffed to say the least , A 4 stroke 1956 200cc bike reaching 43Mph !, I only thought it would go about 30 top's

Very Happy

Its not that amazing when you consider that 1957 was the first year the 100mph average lap was broken on the Isle of Man.

In fact it seems very slow, but I suppose it is a small capacity

Sounds about right, time to recondition the head or start thinking about methanol.

With fireworks night just around the corner ask your dad to get some extra rockets and just strap them to it.

Worked out the cost to rebuild the whole engine at £111.

Might be worth doing by the looks of it.

I will ask on the Ariel Club website what speed to expect, you are a big lad and that will knock a few MPH off the top end.

1955 "Motorcycling"road test reported 63mph.
Now I take it they were using the bikes own speedo so no doubt in was closer to 60.

But does that magazine actually say it's 1/4 mile speeds or is it top speed? (can't see the whole page). It may be that 1/4 mile isn't enough to get to 65mph on your bike and the magazine is stating the top speed.

BS , 15 stone is not exactly heavy , acceptable average adult weight.

Well go and work this out then.
Our Xs250 went 60 Mph one up (just my dad riding, 13 stone), I get on the back and still it goes 60mph.

So it's not my weight that is causing the bike to be slower.

Having thought about it, how much speed would an off road tyre on the rear of the bike knock off the top speed?
