Never been on a chat forum before so here goes....

I've recently started riding and own a NSR125R, & have lately discovered that my gear lever is playing games. For instant I could have it running & it will fail to get in gear and I can't put it in Neutral, and therefore sometimes can't start the thing after. Has anyone else had this happen? Or heard about it? My Mum has same bike and finds the same problem.

Let me know if u can help??? Wink

Your mum has an NSR?...interesting...Razz

Anyhoo, you can start the bike when it's in gear (as long as your don't have the side stand down) by just holding the clutch in when you press the starter button.

I can't seem to make out whether your problems arise when you're actually riding the bike, or just after leaving it to idle?...is there any particular gear that it doesn't like?
There a few "tricks" to help you change down (or up) through the gears at a standstill...my personal fave is to:

1) hold the clutch in
2) step down on the gear lever...keep your foot on the lever
3) then slowly release the clutch up to the biting point
4) if all goes well, you should feel and hear the gear going into place.
5) release your foot from the lever, and repeat the process if necessary Smile

I can't offer you any mechanical explainations I'm afraid, but I'm sure that there are a few peeps here who can.

Is this just first and second gear you're having problems with?

To add to tin's list, to get it into neutral; from first I sometimes find it help to (use the engine to) move the bike forward slightly.. only about half a metre. Then knock it up.

and don't worry.... most of us aren't as scary as we may seem Very Happy

I tend to find my gearbox gets a bit clunky and sometimes misses neutral or gives false neutrals in the period just after an oil change actually. But on the whole the kawasaki gearbox is very good compared to my previous 2 yamaha ones which were pretty shoddy.

I havent had any problem with the gears on my bike. but i did find when the clutch was a bit slack maybe a mm or 2 out, it was a bitch getting it to idle in first and then trying to get it into neutral to start it again.
Definetly a bit of a git at the lights, but a quick adjustment sorted that little problem out.
Have a look at your clutch adjustment and make sure when you pull the clutch its actually moving the thing fully out.
(much eaier to see on an unfaired bike....)

How old is the bike? If its under 2 year, just go back to the shop you got it, or a nearby honda dealer, and they should do it for you.

Before my bike was serviced, it wouldnt go into neutral easily, and then i guess they changed something, ands its easy as pie now Smile

By problems starting, what do you mean exactly?
