Hi. I am looking to do more miles further away from home this year and so I want some roadside cover for peace of mind. Can anyone recommend something? I'll probably be looking for basic cover and cheap of course. anyone had good/bad experiences with certain companies?
Thanks
Calum.

prevention is better than cure, just keep your bike well maintained as almost everybody has something bad to say about all roadside recovery companies, anyway without it you can just call the AA or RAC for a one off pickup for like £70.

Used green flag for both bike and car nad no no problems....

Having said that a person at work will not touch them with a barge pole after a nightmare return trip from france after car broke down. Nuf said....

All have their good and bad points.

Im with the rac.
They pick me up anywhere in the uk and take me home if they cant fix it at the roadside/or they arrange and pay for hotels/or give a hire car,and do the same for your passengers(well not the hire car bit for passengerss but ya know what i mean)

I paid about £75 quid for this for the year, but if you were interested i can give you my details which would get you a 25% discount bringing the bill down to £56 roughly for the year.

Then for each person you introduce to the rac you get 25% discount off your next years cover up to 100% discount for 4 people introduced.(plus the person you introduce gets 25% discount straight away)
I've introduced 2 people so far so next year i get my cover half price Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Seems a good deal to me

i know prevention is best. but it's a risk to take to be many miles away from home and break down.

justmetoo125 -
thanks for that. i'm really interested because i wouldnt pay £75 but their low cover (no taking you home as far as i can remmber is £40 or £50..so for £56 i'd be better off getting the better one, and you'd benefit too - would need too persuade some people to join up for me then aswell Smile
when getting insurance in the next few weeks it's somethig i'll ask about - but if i dont get any with my insurance is it ok if i just PM you about it?
thanks.

thanks.
it was the basic i was after, but haven giving it some thought - i could be stuff miles away from home (for example, im going to portsmouth this year from south wales) so i wouldnt want to be stuck there and them tell me they cant fix it and leave. i will need a lift home so looks like im going to have to shell out the extra. i'll probably give you a PM soon mate.
thanks

Hi

Having tried the AA and the RAC I am now with NCI and found there service way better than the others especially for the bikes.

One big advantage for me is they have no age limt on the bikes the AA RACe and green flag have age limts of as low as 10 years and loads of our bikes/cars are older than that.

We have one policy for me and Keith for all cars and bikes we are using.

Regards
C

Ive only used my rac once when my brother broke down on his scooter.
I was insured for his bike and him for mine,so i went and phoned the rac told them i had broke down, and they were there in about 10mins.
Cant fault them there.

The cover is on the person not the vehicle aswell,if im a passenger in someone elses car they cover that aswell.

Never tryed any other companys but im sure there will be cheaper/better companys out there....worth shopping around for it Thumbs Up

do the RAC only cover you for less than 10 year old bikes?
just mine is 1993 - only done 23,000 miles so should be reliable but they woudlnt cover me?

Just looked - NCi will do it for £50 but that is for the vehicle only not me as a person and i want to be covered for being in other's cars and stuff too. so if RAC will cover me i may go with them.
what about AA - good/bad/expensive? (without the discount will probably be too expensive anyway)

thanks Smile

I'm with AXA breakdown recovery bought through The Bike Insurer. I can't see it on their site anymore, so you'd have to ring them up.

I broke down last week, and they sent SOS motorcycle recovery manchester. They don't send they're own vans they send local recovery companies, but it doesn't cost you a penny. The guy who came to the rescue was a top bloke and even threw my mate's bike in the back and took him home too!

The cover cost me £29.95 a year and they covered my 14yr old bike.

As far as I can remember that price is for european cover, home start, roadside assistance and they'll take you and a pillion with the bike to either your destination or your home address.

The only bad thing I can see with this policy is when you ring the recovery number you have to go through all the details of your bike, your location, the problem, your home address etc etc. I don't think you assign you with a membership number (Or atleast I don't think I was given one).

Find it very handy to have especially with my magnetic tyres!
