Yes its enougher Helmet thread lol. but your help guys would be nice.

Ok I bought a new HJC Moziac helmet for £100 (down from £120) at skellerns in worcester. Loved the feeling of it in the shop and the features it had and thort brilliant. 2 days later i took it out and went to college on it. And was faced with the most horrible and weird moment ever. It has ALOT of wind noise and more scarily is over say 40mph alot of air flows in (so much i have trouble seeing). The vents are shut visor is pressed down. It feels like its coming under the visor.

My old helmet which is a Nitro which cost me £60 was quiet and didnt cause me to strugle to see where i was going. but its 2 years old and needs replacing.

Left the new helmet right the old one.

See im going into the shop with it tommorow to basicly return it for a refund or swap it for enougher make. do you think i am entitled to do this?

Presuming they let me swap it for enougher is there any makes you recommend and ones to stay away from?

Cheers for any help
Matt

P.s. Sorry for any typos im very tired Razz

Not a chance they will refund you. Shops will not exchange helmets due to safety issues. What will you say, it's too noisy? It is still fit for purpose.

They probably wont take it back and yes they are allowed o do so as it's classed as 'safety equipment' ...

I'm in virtually the same situation after buying a new £150 KBC which is louder and lets more air in and even a little water through the visor, when my £30 Nitro from a BSB race didn't ... Tis weird, but oh well ... I'm loving the new lid anyway ... It has that smell Laughing

You wont get a refund, theres normally BIG NOTICES AROUND THE SHOP OR IN THE HELMET SECTION OR EVEN BEFORE THE DOOR AS MOST HELMETS ARNT REFUNDABLE AFTER YOU LEAVE THE PREMESIS!
If you cant see the big caps then your a bit fooked. Before you buy something why not try and find a review like a smart person before hand like i do before i buy a bike, i've made my mistake in buying a Texport jacket twice, shit zips! <- thats a review there by the way!

I have exactly the same helmet.

My experience of it has been fine. I dont consider the wind noise to be anything worse than the AGV and Box helmets I used before. The wind noise has never been an issue. As for the air flowing in the face at 40, Im not too sure what you mean. I have done 135 with this helmet without any problems with air flow.

I have used the HJC for quite a while so its hard to make a direct comparison to other helmets I have used, but I dont remember noticing anything like you are describing when first using it. If anything its the best helmet I have had.

Maybe your HJC is faulty in some way. Might be worth taking it to Skellerns to have a look at it, but like others have said dont expect any money back.

Strange i bought HJC CL-ST the other day, it looks the same as yours with the same vents etc and i have no problem with any air rushing in. This might sound obvious but is the visor firmly down as mine stops just cracked open then you have to click it down to make sure its firmly shut, so it may not be shut when you think it is. If it has a chin 'skirt' are you using that?

On my CL-ST the chin vent feels like a breeze coming in after about 40ish. Tried closing it?

If its new it probably doesn't have "that smell" that a festering old lid has. I washed the lining in mine for the first time in years last week and its made the world of difference.

The noise i can live with and accept.

The air rushing into the helmet is so dangerous it feels like there a gap in the seal between the visor and the air flows through that. Ive pushed the visor down heavily to try and stop it but its like itll sart again with 5mins. And its so strong that you have to squint if you know what i mean.

Im also using the chin skirt which my other helmet doesnt have and less air still moves about.

The helmet its self is a good helmet just the ammount of air flowing seems more like a fault with it. At the end of the day im not expecting money back as theyd probs lose money but if they exchange it ill be happy after all ive just bought all new gear and my bike from them.

************update************

I took it in and the guy behind the counter was very helpful and said he thinks he knows whats wrong with it.

Hes made the visor sit more of an angle so it seels tighter. By adjusting the bracket and 3 screws. So im going to college now to test. Hope it works Very Happy

Was going to suggest adjusting the visor mechanism... Its almost like someone buying a computer and then taking it back because they need to do the last little bit of setup themselves...

But to be fair its acceptable on a computer but you generally wouldn't try to take a screwdriver to your lid the first day you have it! Laughing

Earplugs! A must for modern helmets, if you don't wear them you will have problems later in life. Even the quiet helmets can damage your hearing.

Having the visor not sealing properly around the rubbers is one of the three sources of noise off a lid, hence why it is always important to make sure you adjust your visor, although i've never been bothered to do this on any of my lids. At least the shop fixed it for you which is a good thing. It's not a common thing people know about or know how to do properly i suppose.

And earplugs are a must on bikes - i regret not wearing them for 3 years and now my hearing is beginning to suffer with a combination of listening to loud music with headphones. You don't want to be deaf and dribbling at 50 only hearing a loud whistle.
