In some ways this is a warning about new tyres , and to be carefull for the first 100 miles or so, i nearly did the same when i got my new bike. Give it time to wear off the coating before you do anything.
Hope its no one off here but gutted Laughing

2 problems here;

1. Wrong section, may I direct you to the 'General Bike Videos' area;
2. When you arrive there you will find that this is a REPOST!!!

Sort it out.

Have seen this before in the other section, but having said that I nearly did this last night (As Gman can testify to)

It was around 11.30 the roads were really damp and very cold and I was setting off from the pub on cold tyres.... And for what can only be described as a moment of total idiocy I cracked open the throttle as I turned out of the car park (There were a couple of people watching and a part of my brain decided it wanted to show off)

The bike skidded out at the rear in exactly the same fashion as the video, the only difference being I managed to rescue it and gingerly continue on my way.... The weird thing is I pretty much knew the slide was likely to happen as I'd already read the conditions, but I still decided to risk it Rolling Eyes

Anyway instead of trying to look "cool" I ended up looking like I really didn't know what I was doing and I couldn't handle my bike Embarassed Ah well lesson learnt and it didn't cost me anything.

100 miles is what is often stated so that it doesn't have to be explained easily.

However, 100 miles upright and you'll still be on your arse on the first damp corner.

What you need to do is to lean progressively.
I've happily got my knee down with in 5 miles on someone else's bike with new tyres (and four of those were riding in town to the business park we were playing at).
Similarly, on track I'll push my full race pace after a mile's warm-up lap on Supercorsas.

As above, 100miles is for noobies (all the gear no idea). A few gentle miles on a nice twisty road and your all scrubbed in.

Trouble is so many people don't have a clue and cane it as they are leaving the shop even though they were warned as they paid for the tyre. They end up looking like a twat on the floor with their pride and joy resting on them.

I found my Bridgestone Battlax BT-045s very good from new, my mechanic friend did warn me, and warn me, and warn me though. And as I was shown by my instructor I always check the biting point of the clutch on new bikes so I don't over cook it.

My mechanic related the story of a guy who came in off the street in the summer. He basically threw the cash on the counter and said he wanted a new rear in ten minutes. The mechanic explained that due to existing commitments the best he could do was an hour turn around. The guy goes in the pub across the road, an hour later he picks the bike up, bins it coming out of the side road, picks it up, and drops it again. The guys in the workshop came out to offer help and friendly advice, the rider wasn't polite and rode off up the road literally bouncing off the opposite curbs. Needless to say after taking his money they called the rozzers! Mr. Green

Right as i have just got new tyres, getting them fitted tommorow Pilot sports front and rear. Whats the best way to scrub them in?

Do i go up and down Rivvy a fair few times and try leaning further and further on every pass?

Like my mate on a mito, he just said he went for a blast over the snake pass and they were more or less scrubbed in.

Just take it a bit easy for a few miles.

They don't coat them with oil Smile

Ride where you normally would, just take it easy, maybe go a little bit slower and don't push it quite as hard. Note that when cornering "take it easy" does not necessarily equate to "upright!"

I put that video down to tyre wax.

Just left the showroom, dealer most probably rushed getting it ready.

Damn that looked embarressing.. I've never tried running in tyres on a more powerful bike but on mine I didn't give any attention to running in I just started riding as usual from start. Bike stayed upright.

Think you will find he tried to blip the throttle while weaving. Just the normal release compound on the tyre caught the noob out. Dealers wont touch the tyres as it would leave themselves wide open if something happens, they just warn you to be careful.

Just a blip of the throttle puts out about twice as much as any 125 ever will. Doesn't take much. Wink

Looked to me like he was trying to weave by rolling side to side on the tyres. Thinking
