My motorhome.

It's already been re-classified from an HGV (it's a 7.5t Ford Cargo) to a PLG (Private Light Goods), which means I can drive it on a standard car licence, but I want to get it reclassified as a campervan. I've had a look on the DVLA site but there's fvck-all help to be found there (such a suprise Rolling Eyes ).

Does anyone know how to go about doing it?

TIA. Smile

SVA?

https://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/vehicles/vssafety/importsapproval/thesinglevehicleapprovalscheme

Will SVA affect you?

Generally, your vehicle will need to be approved under the SVA scheme and issued with a Minister's Approval Certificate (MAC) if it is up to 10 years old from the date of manufacture and is not covered by either an EC or national type approval (British or similar national approval from another European Economic Area Member State).

Standard SVA only will be applied to the following:

* a left hand drive vehicle
* a personally imported vehicle 5
* an amateur built vehicle
* a vehicle manufactured in very low volume
* a vehicle manufactured using parts of a registered vehicle (for manufacturers only)
* a rebuilt vehicle (mandatory if first licensing and registration required)
* a motor caravan (optional)
* an ambulance (optional)
* a hearse
* an armoured vehicle

Not a clue what it means by optional?

When did you pass your car test Hetzer?

AFAIK if its before 1997 you should be able to drive it as you stand I think!

It's the insurance company, they want "Campervan" on the log-book. I rang the guy I'm buying it from half an hour ago and he says all I should need to do is inform the local DVLA of the mods and they'll issue a new log-book (which is all he did to get it re-classified as a PLG).

What I didn't know is I can drive up to 7.5t regardless, by virtue of my licence being issued before a certain date (he says 2002).

He's right. Not sure about the date though.

The licensing change kicked in sometime around 1st January 1997, everyone who passed their car test after this needs to separately apply for their HGV to be able to drive over 3.5t's.

Extremely annoying. There's plenty of older people than me (men and women) who can't drive for toss but already have all these entitlements on their license, and I've had to pay literally thousands of pounds to get my full car license, full motorbike license, trailer and caravan towing entitlement, etc etc. Rolling Eyes

You have to be very mature, responsible and possessed of extreme skill to drive anything over 3.5t. Tut Tut
