I know, I know there's a hundred or more threads on here about 600 sports bikes... but I thought I'd make another. Laughing Middle Finger

I'm considering changing the Z750 for a ZX-636 A1P (06 model). Just wanting to know what differences there are...

Power?
Comfort? (not long journeys)
Maintenance?
Brakes?
Handling?

The Z isn't really entertaining me anymore although its a great bike. I want something that I have to make go fast and a bit sportier (makes sense to me Confused Wink )

I've seen an A1P at £4650 with 1600miles in green so I'm tempted.

Will mean more finance but sure...

Thanks! Karma

Nearly 5 grand for an A1 Shocked

You could buy mine for much less than that.

The 06 is a C6F.

I haven't got the 06 model your after but the 2005 one. Comfort is fine on it. For longer distances you may need to rest every so often for 10 mins but otherwise fine.
Power - 636cc motor is v nice. Find mine has good flexibility for low town speeds. Is lovely above 7.5k revs Smile
Maintenance - no probs with mine. So far done 7500 miles and only real cost is new back tire.
Brakes - spot on and can't fault them. Probably best brakes of sports 600 bikes.
Handling - Again no probs with mine. very good at slow speeds for manouvering.

Only downsides would be virtually non existent pillion seat storage space (could fit half a limp sandwich in there at best Rolling Eyes ) and also is not the most practical bike in the world.

Had both. The 6R is just so much better all round.

Doesn't vibrate like a kango and handles so well. Lots of room for a 600 sportsbike. Plenty of go. Comfort - I went from East of England to Ireland for 2 weeks on mine - no problems.

Would be the 600 of choice for me.

But I think the one you're looking at is a bit steep.

And comfortwise - just great. I did 2 weeks touring around Ireland on mine without a problem.

Its similar to this.

That's a C1. Nothing like an A1P!! Are you looking at the B1H?

I've looked into one of these as my next bike too, would have to be green of course Wink . Seems like one of the best bikes of the time (it got rave reviews in 2005 when it was released). The '05/'06 models are identical apart from different colours. I prefer the looks to the '07 model and it has more horsepower and torque too! Suspension on these is supposably much more road biased than the competition as they had the ZX6-RR which was track based (now they only have one model so it's gone back to track bias).

It's either one of these or a CBR600RR '07 model. But the Kwak will be much cheaper for a very similar performance bike so it's leaning toward the ZX6R Smile . The CBR also doesn't have a slipper clutch, but then the ZX6R doesn't have a steering dampener! Hard choice for me Sad .

Check on MCN. 05-06 = C1/2. 03-04 = B1/2. 02 = A1P. 00-01 = J1/2.

Not ridden the Z750 but absolutely love my Ninja. It's also a 06, alright price on the one you're quoting. I picked mine up 2 months ago 1500miles, spotless, one previous owner and £4500 (Front and rear paddock stands thrown in)

Power is pretty good, really gets lively over 10-12k revs and the front gets extremely light. Was fairly disconcerting at first after riding a planted NC30, but you get used to it pretty quickly. My bike seems to have slowed down but the clocks don't seem to agree with my perceptions :S. Will power wheelie in first without having to bounce the bike. On the track it's fantastic although (as a less experienced rider rarely in the perfect gear) it really did struggle to keep up with the liter bikes pulling out of corners.... But perhaps thats not too surprising.

Comfort for me personally is superb. I could ride the thing all day pretty happily (I'm 6 foot dead and pretty stocky). I've added a double bubble to aid with the wind although generally I was fairly impressed with the protection. Pillon isn't the best but what full on sports bike is? I've added a cowl and pulled the pegs so I suppose that doesn't matter either.

Maintenance is an unknown for me as of yet. Haven't had the bike long enough... Although 2000 miles up and the BT014 tyres have taken a battering (track day may not have helped?).

Brakes are great, only bike I've ridden where I was more impressed with the brakes was a VFR800 although that was probably related to the link system.

Handling is a dream at speed. After riding coming from an NC30 which is supposedly a bit of a corner master I was still very impressed with the Ninja (Although the 15 year younger rear shock probably helped). Probably wouldn't hurt to have the suspension set up properly. Think mine is slightly out as it is but it can wait until spring before I consider doing anything about it. At slow speed it's just like any other bike... As good as the rider, but never the less very capable.

Tim

Brilliant mate, appreciate that. So tempted... Neutral Been told I'll only get £2k for the Z with 21k miles. Confused

I'd say if your upgrading from a Z go to a litre.

The ZX6R is lighter than the Z and has slightly more BHP, but not lots more.

In terms of comfort, I'd have said the Z with its more upright position is better. Also the Z wins for maintenance (its got no fairing).

I'd say the ZX6R has better brakes and handling. But the Z would be far easy to cruise with ie getting in to 6th at about 30 and not having to bother changing again (bigger CC).

At the moment I have a Z also, its cable of above 150 so its not a slow bike, mine might have a slight advantage over yours as it is the S model.

A Z750 wouldnt touch a 06 ZX6R, not in any terms of performance. I doubt the Z750 would be much over 100BHP rear wheel, if that, whereas the ZX6R would be an easy 110BHP, plus it'll deliver an much more exciting power delivery. It's a good 30-40kg lighter, with much better brakes, suspension, build quality.

It doesnt mean the Z750 is a bad bike, but it is a budget bike after all.

I have a friend, who last year got a nice Z750 with under 2,000miles, he's had sports bikes for many years but went for the Z750, well after 2 weeks he sold it again, it just didnt handle when pushed.

I dont agree with the above comment that the next stage from a Z750 is a litre bike, I think a new sports 600 is a perfect upgrade, I dont care what people say, there are not many riders who can out ride a 600cc sports bike on the road and if they can, they're a danger to themselves and others.

Agree completely with Dynamite, the zx6r is pretty much a track ready bike, whilst the Z750 is in the SV and fazer category.

I recall one of the staffers from Bike pitching one against a GSXR600 a couple of years ago - in a straightline drag anyway. Matched the 600 up to 130 or so before areodynamics became an issue.

10bhp isn't as much of a difference on the road, add in some corners though and things may be a little different.

You'll lose alot of value with a kwak, especially a Ninja. You can pick up a 2003-2004 B1 636 for £2500 + & that's in mint condition.
