I bought a new phone the other day, and Carphone Warehouse must have sold my details to anyone who wanted them because I've been inundated with calls from insurance companies trying to get me to take out insurance with them rather than CPW.
The first few who called me were duly asked for websites and contact details to make sure they weren't scammers trying to get my bank details for nefarious means. Some were quite nice and understanding about it, some put me on hold then hung up, and one particularly good one involved the lady forgetting to mute me so I heard her shouting across the office "What's our website address?" several times.
I also discovered that if I tell them how many companies have called me in the last 2 days with exactly the same offer they hang up, but the best one was this afternoon.
Private number calls me, I answer and get a Geordie lass starting on the usual spiel of "This is just a quick call about your new phone ...". As soon as she let me get a word in edgeways I asked if it was about insurance, she said yes and I told her I wasn't interested, and that I'd spoken to my network, who had told me that none of these companies were linked to them in any way (most told me that they were the main insurance company for several different networks). I was polite but firm, and I thought I'd got my point across that I didn't want anything to do with the offer.
She then carried on with the sales patter, telling me that the network would say that, and that it was fine to insure my brand new, £400 phone with a cold caller who I knew nothing about. By this point I really couldn't be arsed so I hung up and thought that would be an end to it.
Not 30 seconds later she called me back. I hung up again as soon as she started talking. The next couple of times she called I said "no thank you" and hung up again. Then on the 4th or 5th call I answered with "you're not getting the hint are you?" She then started telling me how rude it is to hang up on people, so I did it again. In retrospect it might have been better to inform her that I think it's rude to kepp calling someone who obviously doesn't want to speak to you or buy your product.
Anyway, that was when my battery died, so I didn't get to carry on the hilarity, but when I put it on charge I discovered I had a voicemail from her saying "Don't you know it's rude to hang up on someone in the middle of a conversation? Didn't your mother teach you any fucking manners?" I just wish it hadn't been a withheld number, I think there would have been a lot more milage in the argument, but it gave me a good laugh and that's all that matters in the end ____________________ mattsprattuk wrote: but at least the lifan could do like 104mph in 3rd gear |

I think i'd be taking the phone back to cpw andtelling em to shove it where the sun dont shine. If I want to buy somethig i'll go out and look for it. It dont want cold calling every 10 mins trying to sell it to me. |

Bearing in mind which branch of car phone warehouse you bought the phone from... they're harassing you; which of course is a criminal offence. |

just to add if you still have the time of the call and the message on your answer phone contact the network provider and they can see who rang you. The number is withheld by the network from you not the people ringing.
So therefore you cant see who calls you they can and if you report it as abuse and tell them you gonna contact the police they will/or should tell you who made the call. As you also have the message you can contact them and report her ..
Now that would be funny... |
