you know that youtube vid of the bloke on the brand new gsxr leaving the dealer and crashing....well i just did my own version outside my house.
what a complete prick i am. Thought id go for a little ride so i wrapped up nice and warm only to drop it on my drive.
In hindsight a ride today was a bad idea but i was going to take it gently too.

heres there gore....

Gutted! I've almost done this twice in the last week.... and it's left me slightly less agressive with the throttle and short shifting into high gears wherever I go...

Least the bike seems to have come off relatively lightly, and you don't even mention if you hurt yourself so I'm guessing not.

I'd leave new panels 'till spring, then if you do it again it won't be so painful.

What am I talking about, I personally would just leave it as it is (well, I'd straighten the lever). Everything else still works.

my mate fitted brand new repsol fairings to his Cbr600rr last week, 2 days later he pulled out of the bike shed at work, cold tires + cold road = highside. quite literally 10 seconds after pulling away.

he's gutted, all fairings now shagged.

Heat the lever and pull it straight whilst it is hot.
Ignore the little scratch on the exhaust pipe, it will make no difference to the bikes performance.
The plastic only looks slightly scratched, ignore that as well.
I imagine the bike rides just as it was intended.

unfortunately ignoring it doesnt hide the fact that my previously mint bike which cost me near on 5 grand is now not mint.

But does that fact stop you enjoying riding it?

As I've often said, if you can see those bits of the bike when you're out on a ride, then something's probably gone horribly wrong Smile.

Then repeatedly heat and slowly cool it to relieve any internal stress in the metal or it'll snap.

A top tip is that alloy generally melts at just above the temperature where soot starts to burn. So rub it with soap and apply heat. When the soot starts to burn, don't heat it any further, get bending (slowly but purposefully, try to get it in the right place with one smooth movement).

Then try to break it, better it breaks now than in use.

Unlucky. Didn't film it did you? Smile

You wanna get new panels for that little scratch? Alot of it should polish out & just touch up the rest.

Good points made already - actually plastics sometimes aren't as expensive as you imagine, but it can be a swine to get the exact right colour scheme due to the rapid turn-over in new styling.

Must admit to at least two minor silly incidents turning in the garage here Embarassed

It was going to happen someday IMHO. Bikes only stay mint if you never use them, weather, mechanical wear and the odd smash reduces them to what most bikes are after a few years. That is why second hand bikes cost less than new ones.

It looks like your crash bung took most of the damage, £60 well spent I feel.

Meh, you'll find a new lease of life now.

That first drop is out of the way, your bike has been blooded. ITs a warrior now Laughing

Mines been down on both sides since ive had it, and i refuse to do anything but get it running again. Its what R+G's are made for.

Which is a point, why didnt you have R+G's !!

Same thing happened me on thursday night. Pull out of driveway and before you can say boo I'm on my arse looking at the bike doing a pirouette on it's engine casing. Bent my welded on scooter peg straight up, brake lever and bust my screen (hot glue didn't hold up too well)

It's so easy done. Surprised

Granted my bike wasn't mint before hand but do you really need it to be perfect?

I has the genuine suzuki ones on there. they did well keeping the bars, nose etc off the floor but theres always going to be some damage.

Ive just been out there with the t-cut. Its masked the scratches alright but theres two black paches where its worn through the silver. Sick

Not one to highjack a thread (but I will anyway Razz ) is it recommended to replace crash bungs after they've been worn down?
Might be worth going into a paintshop with that scratched fairing to see if they can do anything with it.

It depends on the bungs.

R&G bungs often bend the bolt which can damage the thread in the engine, especially if left in.

The ones on what was mine and is now luke's bike have taken maybe 20 hits across the two sides and are still going strong.
Not sure who made them unfortunately, but they seem to have got the balance between strength and wearing-away-ness just right.
