Well im finally riding again after a forced 3 week hiatus when my bandit's engine packed up on me. Long story short, i sold that for what i could, beged, borrowed and tried to steal what little cash i could and brought myself this:

The original 98 Hornet 6. This bike had a hard life, started out as a yellow one. When i saw it a month ago it literally had only a frame and some jaggedy electrics. A mate of mine whos a mechanic has restored it to what you see now and let it go for an affordable price.
I gotta say im well happy, I have never really liked the look of hornets but this one is growing on me...
In the couple of days i have been riding it (not the best wether..)
Its quite different to the bandit... slightly more power, but it delivers it in a much smoother way... with the bandit it was 7k revs oh here we go and then nothing... this just keeps pulling all through the 6 gears, You dont really have to bang it down a gear to overtake, although it helps. It reminds me more of a twin than the peaky nature of some IL4's i have ridden.
A couple of things i want to do to it.. Firstly install some braided brake hoses on the front to improve the feel, and then spraypaint those wheels black... i hate white anything... I could do what i normally do, let them get so grubby no one notices... but i think i will paint these ones.
The renthal bars give it a great feel, really chuckable into corners and just the right height for filtering, slightly above most car mirrors, slightly below vans... 4x4's are bastards whatever you have .
Just been going around my regular haunts the last couple of days... even some guy on a DT125 who had run out of petrol on the A40 commented how fast/smooth it was (i did my good deed for the day and took him to the petrol station and back, he dident look like he was having fun pushing TBH and i was in no rush).
My girlfriend/mates love it because unlke the bandit its got a grabrail.
Oh and even though its got a standard can on it, my mate has drilled a number of holes in the back so it sounds well fruity... Especially on the overrun... Rough as fuck, in a good way
Overall im pretty impressed, the bike is perhaps slightly more thirsty than i would like but no more than the bandit, so i can live with it. So i just hope this one is nice and reliable and does me well.
Thats all, Cheers
-One happy bunny |

Very nice, amazeing what you can get hold of for the money..
The headlight though, please burn it at the closest oppertunity, a friend of mine was unfortunate enough to have one on a bike of his, there really spectacularly shit, I'd go as far to say they are dangerously shit. Made by the same people who make toys for kinder eggs.
Belly pan might be worth a look though, dirt+wobbley pipes gotta be spensive when the weather does the inevitable (maybe some bbq paint as well?) ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Yep, thats one type that will, although a couple of coats of high temperature pain does the same bbq/stove paint tends to be cheaper ime.
These lights of my mates had connections that were very poor indeed, they'd cut out and in at random, although the idiot who put them on in the first place didn't help.. In the end we went down to a breakers and fitted a single round lamp for £10
I know what you mean about mirrors 0_o if its helpful there more or less standard, any old honda mirrors will fit (assuming its got the holes there still) and allot of others besides ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Mr Z: I will look into the high temp paint, cheers
My mate has fitted them well, but like i say not what i would have chosen, but i can live with it for the time being...
And yep it still has the holes for both mirrors... Ile have a look on ebay later, Im thinking the more rectangular ones rather than rounded bandit style mirrors for this one though.
T1z3R: Nothing better to do than look for spelling mistakes?... lol |
