I just bought a 1997 Yamaha XV125 Virago. It's in good condition and has only done 7500 miles. The seller assured me that the steering lock and everything else is in working order, buy I can't get the steering lock to work.

The manual says to insert the key and turn 1/8 anticlockwise, then push the key in and turn it 1/8 clockwise. I've been doing this, but the lock doesn't seem to engage. Can anyone advise?

PS Before I say how much I paid for the bike, does anyone have any idea of what it should be worth?

usually the handlebars have to be turned fully to the left.

and anything from £80 - £1750 depending on mileage/condition/ age etc
