Hope you all survived last nights winds better than me.

Woke up to find my bike on its side in the garden. Threw cloths on legged it outside to pick it up.
First thought everything was ok mirror had bent round nothing else.
Second check - exhaust mounting bolt. The nut had stripped off the bolt from the fall. Front Side Fairing has a lovely crack running from top to bottom.
Didn't have time to check for any more damage as i was running late but gutted as hell.
I know i shouldn't get so p*ssed off but its my pride and joy plus i had to take the card to work which is watching paint dry compared to my fun bike commute.

what a crap way to start a friday....

Unlucky. My 125 blew over in the wind last year, which was rather annoying. That was because it only had a centre stand though. I would have thought a side stand would be fine.

The only problem I have been having is my bike cover blowing away.... Laughing

Unlucky hun Thumbs Down

Im lucky to have an extra 'U' shaped high wooden fence around the bike which stops part of the wind.
It was pretty bad here last night, no fun on the push bike.

Thanks all.
I was really down this morning especially having to car it to work.
Always cheers me up a good blast to work instead of queuing for an hour going no where.

Speaking of covers last weekend i was tieing it on when the wind got under it and like a parachute took off over the roof of the house.

I thought bye bye as i live near a river and lake but fortunately it hooked onto my neighbours scaffolding van.

Must have been a hell of a gust as the bike was on its side stand and had a full tank of fuel as i topped it off just before i got home.

Nearly killed me trying to pick it up.

Looks like fibreglass fun on saturday for me.

Sad

Sorry to here that mate.
Warning for Sunday. Very high winds across the southern counties and western areas.
I'm not taking any chances. Time to find somewhere more sheltered or maybe a titanic sized anchor chain.

I posted this on the SE board just before 1am this morning.

Quote:
Well now i'm pissed off. That bloody wind isnt half strong.

Put the bike under the gazebo type cover I had which I will add was tethered to two posts one side and a brick wall and tree the other side.

Just popped out to go to tescos in the car and the bloody gazebo has blown over.

It doesnt end there.

On blowing over, two of the metal poles have smacked the side of the bike and when the gazebo has gone right over it has landed straight in the side of my car. No broken windows on the car but I am sure there will be a few battle scars on either the bike or the car or even both. Wont know until the morning as it's pitch black outside.

Hopefully I could be 'lucky' as from what I could see, the angle would have meant the poles would have hit the engine bars and not the bodywork.

The car is bound to have some scratches on it as I had to wrestle the gazebo off the bloody roof and from underneath the car.

Rant over.

EDIT: Had a proper look in the daylight now and luckily the engine bars on the Transalp took the brunt and there is no damage. Not even a scratch Shocked On the downside the car did take the brunt. Small dent in the passenger rear quarter, a few 'below the primer' scratches on the passenger door, rear quarter and the roof.

Anyone know what I can cover the scratches over with until I can get it sorted out properly. Just to stop the bad weather eating at the bare metal?

One day in Edinburgh my mates SV650 blew over OVER THE TOP of its sidestand! It lifted the bike so far up that the stand buckled and the bike came crashing down on its left hand side.

I hope everyone who has found their bike lying on its side is being very careful the first time they try to crank it over again. If oil has got into a cylinder (it shouldn't but then again, they shouldn't be lying on their side) it can fluid-lock leading to terminal engine damage if you attempt to start it.

If my bike had been lying on its side overnight I would either be whipping the plugs out before turning it over or carefully turning it over manually with a socket on the end of the crank. If it turns over once, it's ok (ie, two complete turns of the crank).

2-strokes should be fine.

I thought that invalidated your house insurance though?
