I'm tired of buying second rate Hein Gericke shite, it's awful. Can anyone recommend a decent pair of gloves to me please? Winter or all-season, all-season preferrably, for around £70 Very Happy

Thanks!

My Alpinestars Drystar seem up to the job, only £20. Lack a little armour though.

With a pair of silk gloves on the inside for colder mornings, seem fine for the worst winter has to offer.

I've always found HG's stuff to be of a very good standard actually, however, Alpinestars Gore-Tex gloves come recommended, Jet GTX or something similar they're called... Smile

Can't rate my thrity-odd quid lobster claws highly enough. Even after I went down in them.

Of course they are Hein Gericke so probably not the items you are looking for...

Current version of my lobsters.

Mine aren't exactly the same as these as mine are heading into their third winter...

Hein Geicke sold me the only pair of truly waterproof gloves I have ever owned. Master 4 gloves.

In typical fashion, they no longer make them.

Tip for anyone. If you ever find a piece of bike gear and think "Wow! This is perfect. It fits me beautifully and fulfills its function in every way I could possibly expect." Go straight back to the shop and buy as many more of them as you can afford, you can bet your arse they'll stop making said item within a month of you buying it.

And again,

Especially gloves, So many times when i have found a good pair of gloves knackered them out after say 3-6 months then go back looking for the same pair they are gone, never to be seen again. My current Furygan summer gloves are amazing, give the greatest feel, armored, leather etc. Only 40 Euros, and thats it i only brought one of them from the shop in southern france... Doubt i will find them here.

On topic you cant go far wrong with the lidl winter gloves, no feel for the controls whatsoever, but for what 10 quid they keep your hands dry and warmish...

I know what toby means though everyone raves about HG, i really dont rate them, their own brand gear while maybe good is overpriced compared to competitiors. For instance HG thermals, i hated them, the felt like the cheapo lidl ones... Whereas my EDZ thermals... well they feel so good i wear them all the time.

I have come to the point now with gloves at least i dont wanna spend 50 quid + on gloves that will be fucked within a couple of months, so i just buy shit cheapo ones often.. It works for me...

Just so i have actually contributed something to the topic, the 5 Finger version of the lobster gloves are waterproof and warm, maybe worth a try, i dident get on with the lining which kept pulling out...

Man. I literally felt my blood pressure rise about 10mmHg as soon as I read that, just at the THOUGHT of paying £50 for a pair of gloves which the lining pulls out of when wet.

That's another benefit of the Master 4 gloves. They dinnae do that. Although they can be tricky to put on with damp hands (on account of them being dry inside). I've had mine 3 years now (estimate, 25-30k miles of use) and they are still waterproof.

Aye and theres always at least one digit where the lining doesent want to go back in properly, usually the thumb... I have totally given up on gloves with "linings". As i say cheap summer gloves, and lots of them, if they get wet fuckit thats if i get caught out, if i have to ride ina downpour the lidl specials come out...

Ski gloves, the kind with a wind stopper material outside, and a removeable microfleece inner. Best possible option I'm finding at the moment. Warmer even than lobster mitts!

I got a set of trekmates Tromso 3 in 1 gloves, for £17 from tk maxx.

Theyre on the following website too, the goretex gloves look pretty good for a tenner more!

I believe its due to not only a decent thermal material that they are made of but that with two fingers next to each other there is a larger amount of air that can be warmed so you retain more heat... Maybe:up:

No doubt ski gloves keep your hand nice and warm but in a off I'd guess your hands would be torn to shreds as they are not designed to withstand any form of abrasion.

Winter gloves will never offer the same protection as summer gloves as it's a compromise with the thermal insulation / feel / being waterproof. However some is better than none at all.

I wear held akira gloves in the summer and been wearing Halvarssons Dry Level gloves this winter. The Halvarssons are not as thick as other winter gloves I have had, are warm, tried and tested waterproof, offer reasonable protection for a winter glove and are cheap. The first time I got cold fingertips in them was about 1 1/2 week ago when it dropped below 0c commuting home late at night on the motorway, the current 7c -12c temperature i don't get cold hands at all.

https://www.biker-land.de/xtcommerce/images/product_images/info_images/77_0.jpg

They cost £40 from https://www.biker-land.de

I have some belstaff lobster gloves and they are much thicker than the Halavarssons, not as warm and absorb water despite being labeled waterproof.

Mine held up ok in an off, where I had to put my hands down, barely a scuff, so abrasion resistance is ok at normal speeds, the palm on mine is some kind of thick rubbery material also.
They do not however, offer any protection from mechanical impacts, but then, its quite rare for you to bang your knuckles hard against the tarmac (in my experience at least).

After having a pair of nitro gloves since February 2005. yes really. They eventually started to fall apart, after about 15 offs though.

Recently replaced with a pair of RST Paws for just £13 new.

https://i4.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/b0/5f/d912_1.JPG

Very warm, drawstring cuffs, and a wiper to wipe rain away on the thumb. Can't recommend them enough for the price.

From ebay

I found my Lobsters much, much warmer and although they don't give as much 'feel' as my lightweight summer gloves I did adjust in around fifteen minutes.

It was very weird in the spring when I switched back to my normal lightweights.

The lobsters allow the glove maker to use thicker insulation on the fingers where you really need it, which alongside the fingers keeping eachother warm across the gap makes them toasty warm on all but the longest runs.

When I had my spill I did split the seam on the outer on the inner part of my thumb. Hein Gericke did offer to replace it if I still had the reciept, sadly I'm not that organised.

Besides I really didn't notice a difference in its thermal properties and the waterproof layer was still intact.
