Just had my quote through for the car recetly so I thought I would have a check online (with the same company) and see if it was any cheaper (saved 120 quid last year lol).

Anyway the company is priviledge and the cover is for me (25 6 yrs no claims, clean licence) and my dad (named driver, god knows how old might be 58+, 1 non fault accident) and it came through at £330 ish. Thats on a 2003 vectra 2.2 dti sxi (diesel ffs!)

So went online and done the biz and it went down a tenner so not much action there. So tried it without me dad and got another tenner off. Treid it with dad back on and no claim, same price.

So then I got curious to see how much certain convictions affect premiums. Took the old bloke off and started with a base of £312....

SP30 exceeding limit on a public road £330

Speeding on the motorway £338

Driving under the influence, six month ban £448

Causing death by dangerous driving £480

Fail to stop (like what happened to the old bloke this year) £420

So there we are, £120 hike for drink driving and £170 for dangerous driving. Yet when I was reversed over by same fat bird 50/50 I ended up with a 300 quid hike.

I checked with zero no claims and it was higher than if Id killed someone driving like a twat. Thanks to the insurance companies for victimising everyone and not just the idiots that plague our roads, kill our families and dont play by the rules.

Thumbs Up

So you get a loading for an sp30 these days? Robbing bastards. They must be making shitloads off that as half the countrys drivers seem to have points these days. I've had a clean license for years now, but going back to when I had 6 points there was no extra premium. I asked the insurance company about it at the time and they said as long as I informed em there was no extra premium.

Most companies won't load the premium for the first 3 points as so many people have some, points loose weight year after year too.

It difficult though, £120 hike for drink driving. Seems too little to be honest, but if they made it say £500 extra instead, that'd just end up with the person probably not bothering to have insurance, so then it's counterproductive.
